Wilson River Bounty!
Had the opportunity to fish yesterday and this morning with ifish guide Travis Moncrief of Fins, Feathers, and Furs and oh, what a couple of trips it was. Yesterday, the 23rd, we were able to be limited by noon on the Wilson when it didn't seem like overall the fishing was that great. Our tally included 12 fish hooked and 9 landed, including a bright chinook jack that was released (along with a couple of steelhead bucks). We also had the good fortune of hooking and landing two dandy broodstock fish that fought like crazy and were noticably larger than the other hatchery brats. Today, similar experience, with six fish hooked and five landed before 11:30 before running home to a prime rib dinner and opening some presents with the family. And by the way, not a single one of these fish was hooked anywhere near the "tank". Some other guides may have had a hard time finding a place to park, but we just kept moving and kept catching the whole time. If you're interested in fishing steelhead either on the north coast in December or January, or the Siletz in February or March, I would highly recommend Travis. Plus, you'll get the chance at a FREE  trip to ALASKA

Re: Wilson River Bounty!
Travis,
Nicely defended with a view to your livelyhood. A lot of assumption going on there from Sublime. That said, I've yet to take a guided trip (don't have the scratch this year) but you could do anything short of kicking me in the family nuggets and I'd still book you again if you got me on fish like that.
Just my opinion, I could be wrong.
Cheers,
Brent
P.S. Congrats Blackdog on some fishing I can only dream of. I think I'm turning green.

Re: Wilson River Bounty!
Travis and sublime,
I have never fished with Travis and I definately know that he doesn't know me, but I have fished next to him in T-bay and in Dourty (I don't know how to spell it) slough, and he has been nothing but polite and informative to me and fellow fisherman multiple times and in different boats.
Sounds like you had a great day on the water Travis, keep up the good work!
Merry Christmas,
Andy

Re: Wilson River Bounty!
Right on Travis... but one thing....
You have lived down the road from me for quite some time now, and you have NEVER brought me cookies and hot chocolate.
Do you know how much that hurts?
What nerve!!!

Re: Wilson River Bounty!
Awesome fish Blackdog. This really lifts my spirits. I have a reservation with Travis on Saturday. This is a Christmas present for my son, daughter's boyfriend, and of course, myself! I hope your success will be an indicator of our time. Thanks for sharing your experience!!!

Re: Wilson River Bounty!
Marty, come on! Give me a break! I was a complete novice in the Sockeye game, but don't you worry, I have spent some time this winter working on some ideas and feel my technique will be ready come July   . I had better have my game on this coming year cause I don't think Travis will stand for the same equipment casualties as last year.
Seriously Marty, we saw you just up the river when we were cleaning fish and I was hoping you would come by so I could say 'hi' and wish you Merry Christmas. Couldn't help spotting the Christmas wreath around the front of your boat. Way to be in the spirit of things.

Re: Wilson River Bounty!
Black Dog,
Had a great couple days fishing with you guys as well, you guys were on fire. With a total of 18 fish hooked in two days I think Santa was looking down on us. Thanks
Sublime,
I am not even sure how to resond to your comments. So I guess I will say sorry if you felt snubbed. I can't remeber a boat or bank fishermen I didn't talk to. The conditions were wet, cold, and windy and I was bundled up so maybe the rain driving in my face gave me a scowl, or maybe if you are the boat I am thinking of, pulling plugs through the hole we were drift fishing that might have done it. If that was you in teal/aqua colored boat.
I fish for a living, that is all I do. If you are not a people person you won't make it. For you to come on a public forum and chastise me when you don not even no me is what frustrates me about this board. I think this is very neat thing going on but it only takes a few to ruin it.
Next time I see you let me know who you are and I well bring over some hot chocolate and cookies.
I have fished quite a few Ifishers since I got involved with Ifish and have had no complaints. For you to say I wouldn't be fun to fish with, that I need a personality check, and that I can't catch fish on the Nestucca is uncalled for. Again you don't even know me, most of the time, things like this I can ignore, but this type of behavior can affect my livelyhood which I don't ignore.
Maybe it is you that needs the personality check? Haven't you heard that "If you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all."
One more thing are you sure we didn't catch anything on the Nestucca?
Sorry for this, but I felt I needed to defend myself.
FINAL THOUGHT: It seems that quite often when someone has some good fortune and posts their story there is always got to be the guy that has to somehow degrade it. I don't know if it is jealousy or what but I think we could all do with out that. Just my 2 cents

Re: Wilson River Bounty!
I would just like to say that Travis is a liar. His memory sucks, and he tells mistruths. Sense blackdog is a bigger liar and a guide buddy of Travis's I would doubt they caught that many fish.
After the 2 of them bashed me openly on this board and lied about me to discredited my name. I will never refer business to them again. Kind of makes you wonder what sublines post above had to say before they yanked it.
This is my honest opinion.

Re: Wilson River Bounty!
Wow. Great couple of days !
Glad to see some broodstock fish being taken. They've always got a little extra spunk to them
What a great way to spend the holidays, whacking fish
Btw, I hope you didn't use those fish as stocking stuffers   Although I wouldn't mind finding those under my tree

Re: Wilson River Bounty!
How did I miss this post????
I think sublime must have been all hopped up on egg nog because Travis is one of the nicest guides I've ever talked too or fished with. I fished with hime on a crowded trask river and he was polite to everyone and I remember being impressed by his friendliness to everyone. He didn't act like he owned the river or the launch like a lot of other guides do.
Nice fish black dog. Sorry about the beavers though
