Chameleon vs. Ultra Green
I realize this has probably come up before, but for those of you that use Maxima leader, what type do you use and why?

Re: Chameleon vs. Ultra Green
Due to it being a little more "supple" I prefer the Ultragreen for pretty much everything except I like the stiffness of the Chamelon for Spin N' Glos.

Re: Chameleon vs. Ultra Green
For steelhead, I use ultragreen. Don't know why, I just had partial filler spools laying around and am using it up for leaders. The way my eyes are getting, I am thinking of switching to Chameleon. It is getting more difficult to see the ultragreen when I am tying egg loops. For salmon mooching rigs, I prefer Chameleon. It is a bit stiffer and resists twisting much better than ultragreen.

Re: Chameleon vs. Ultra Green
The ultragreen is a limper line. It casts much better. I use it for drift fishing main line & leaders.
The Chamelon is some tough stuff. Alot stiffer line it doesn't perform as well in casting. The benifit it has is it is much more abrasion resisitant. If your fishing some where with alot of rocks and boulders or under water ledges, you got alot better chance of not getting broken off.
I've been frayed off on the ultragreen, more times than I like. But you allways have give & take.

Re: Chameleon vs. Ultra Green
well, i've tried both, but i prefer to use ultragreen on my baitcaster. it just seems to cast better for me. both are great lines though!

Re: Chameleon vs. Ultra Green
I've never much cared for the chameleon, too stiff and brown colored. The UG is great for leaders but I like Stren, Izor, or Suffix for my main line.

Re: Chameleon vs. Ultra Green
DCR - good question! I used to use Chameleon, but now use UG exclusively. However, I have read recently that some steelhead fisherman use one or the other depending on the water conditions. For example, using Chameleon on dark or cloudy days or for dark rivers like the upper Trask. In other words, matching the color of the leader to the conditions. This is new to me, but might be worth exploring. Anyone else doing this?? Good fishing, drifter.

Ultra green for casting, especially for winter fishing.

Re: Chameleon vs. Ultra Green
I use UG for leader, chameleon for droppers, and Triline XL for mainline if I’m drift fishing. I have never had good luck with maxima for mainline.

Re: Chameleon vs. Ultra Green
I've tried several other lines but keep coming back to Maxima Chamleon for mainline and leader. Its tough stuff, knots well, is virtually invisible in the water, and I've used it since the early '70s.

Re: Chameleon vs. Ultra Green
Is anyone using Maxima's crystal ivory? How does it compare to Ultragreen or Chameleon?

Re: Chameleon vs. Ultra Green
I have used crystal ivory for mainline instead of ug for the last year and i love it. I think its the same line as ug, just a different color.
