Newbie
Just thought I'd introduce myself. Came here via westfly (Thanks, Dennis...) and live a few minutes from the Rogue down here in Southern OR... Flyfish 99% of the time, salmonid addict, Loop addict (drag? we don't need no stinkin' drag!), good fish story posted on my website, click on "the best trip report of my year..."

Re: Newbie
Nice site, gstrand. No, wait, make that very nice site!
Welcome to ifish. You've come to a great community and I have a feeling you will add to it.
I see you did the right thing, running those elk out of the river so you could fish that riffle. Gives new meaning to "fire in the hole!"
C'mon though, give us a real story!

Re: Newbie
Thanks for the kind words... the site just keeps me occupied and provides my own little soapbox.
There's also a real story there on the site in the pics of "Nope, DNB". He came down from Seattle for work, and we luckily hooked up for a trip to the spot I fish the most... He nailed his first steelhead on a fly that morning. That same morning I got a chinook up to the bank on my 8# leader, only to have him wink at me, and promptly snap it and take my fly... No steelhead for me that morning, but it's been a good late summer and fall here on the Rogue, and I'm looking forward to a good winter run as well.

Re: Newbie
Wow! Another Westfly guy crosses over to the dark side!!! I hope that lurker on Hookeds' Clack report didn't scare ya!!! Lots of guys here FF too, myself included. It's more fun to do it all, keeps one from becoming one-dimensional, kinda like cross training if you will......
BTW just checked out your website, very nicely done.

Re: Newbie
Gus,
Great website very informative. I just registered with IFish as well. I also just moved down to your neck of the woods. I live in Jacksonville. I've been very impressed with the Rogue thus far.
Glad to see you professing your faith on the website. I like that, hope to see you on the river.
Tight lines and may God bless you daily,

Re: Newbie
Hey Snap - By the looks of your moniker you're a speyer?
I keep debating buying a two hander. Fred Evans keeps pushing me to come over to the dark side...Problem is I can't really afford a whole 'nother rod yet, and my Loop #3 isn't big enough to hold a big 'ol spey line, so I'd have to go for a new reel, too. Moved to Jacksonville, eh? Was out there Saturday for some Bella Pizza and roasted chestnuts. Kind of a family tradition we have before Christmas.
I get out to Touvelle usually one weekday morn before work a week, sometimes three days or more a week if the weather's nice and fish are hanging out there. I also live within walking distance of the Expo ponds (yes, Expo Ponds...) and flyfish for the bluegill there frequently in the summer as well. I just finished building two rods - identical 8' 4wts for my son and I to use at the Holy Water, planning on breaking them in Thursday or Friday.
Anyway, thanks for the kind words. Where did you move from? Our last stint was in Sandpoint ID - good fishing, but too cold for my blood... even though it was snowing this morning coming to work.
Tight lines to all and to all a good fight!

Re: Newbie
gstrand,
Welcome!
I too am a newbie, but using alot of my spare time enjoying ifish. Cool website! Great story about your son. I just posted a story about my 13 yr old daughter's elk hunt over on the huntin' page.
I get down to the Rogue for the spring run mostly to fish with my buddy from Klamath. Maybe we'll see each other somewhere above Shady Cove in May/June.
God Bless you and your family.
Tight Lines Brother!
