North Coast Metal
Had a good day yesterday on the North Coast with this pair for my efforts. Pink Corkie and eggs. The water is getting low again allready!
Today only 1 spawned out buck. I went to another zipperlip spot to get away from the crowds on the Necanicum. Caught 2 wild Silvers. One Bright Hen and one Crimson Buck. Lost one other. I have never seen so many spawned out dead fish on the zipper river in my 20+ years of fishing it.  It makes me happy to see it work like it is supposed to. One of those dead fish was a chinook that would have gone 40+.....

Hey there Newt. We will have to go after christmas! It is a bankie show all the way but it is usually productive and the zipperlip is a great place....... My favorite of them all....

Re: North Coast Metal
It is a sea lice. No tail left on it but it's a sea lice. At least half the fish I've seen caught in the last two weeks have had sea lice.
Why do you insist on coming on the board and acting like you know more about these guys fish then them?

Re: North Coast Metal
Help a newbie learn. Are the two fish a buck and a hen? Explain sea lice for me? Sorry for my stupidity, but I got to start somewhere.

Re: North Coast Metal
Skunked,
See above for what a sea lice looks like. They last a few days in fresh water before falling off.
Some time you will find small black leaches on fish in fresh water, they are sometimes mistaken for sea lice by some.
The top one is a hen and the bottom one looks to be a buck.
Hens have a rounded snout and bucks have a longer one. Also, bucks usually will have a little more color and hens will be brighter. Hens will also sometimes have a pooched out butt hole.

Re: North Coast Metal
Skunked,
I don't pretend to know fish like DJ, but a guide buddy told me check the edge of the mouth, if it goes just to the eye, it's a hen, past the eye, it's a buck. By that method they are hen & buck as stated.
As DJ says the snout and color are first indicators. The mouth trick helps me with smaller summer runs that I sometimes have a hard time telling on.
Thanks for the photos! All those dead salmon in the river are a good thing. Remember that place 3-4 yrs from now, should be a good wild return.
Dave, is there any serious study on how long sea lice (with tails) stay on? Last year I caught a springer at Bonneville thusly equipped. Fast little traveler!
Good Luck, Tight Lines,
GRB

Re: North Coast Metal
Ditto on the mouth/eye thing. I still get fooled on occasion with Summer fish early in the run but I will double check it after the fact and it is a good way to tell.

Re: North Coast Metal
I don't want to start anything, but I agree with DJ about the earlier comment. If negativity is all someone has to say, then maybe they shouldn't say anything at all???
My .02 worth.

Oh yeah I forgot, nice fish!!!
