The Christmas Challenge
From now through the Holidays is a very stressful time for all.
Here is my challenge, and I know it's not fun, but just try it. It may prove rewarding.
If someone makes you mad on ifish, try to ignore it, or fix it in a productive manner. If someone ticks you off on the river, try to handle it differently than you might otherwise.
Try the kindler, gentler Christmas approach.
No one, and I mean NO ONE needs added stress at this time of year. Let's try and bring some happiness and cheer to the season, as a Christmas present to all.
Jen

Re: The Christmas Challenge
why just ifish? let's extend this out everywhere. on the roadways (christmas is after all a time to get together and getting together means traveling), on the rivers (for those of you lucky enough to get out and do some fishing this holiday season), in the malls (for those of us still shopping for that special something), there are so many opportunities for others to affect how we feel.
in the end though, you own your emotions. only you decide whether to be angry at or pity :depressed: someone who feels their needs are more important than everyone else's. you make the conscious decision to be offended by someone's remarks before perhaps taking a moment to understand why they feel the way they do. when you write something inflamatory here, be it to a certain individual or to the population as a whole, you already know what kind of response you're going to get. it's christmas after all, a time for giving. good will towards men (and women). let's be good to each other. it costs nothing and it's worth cannot be calculated.
this year, give the gift of forgiveness to your fellow human. at the end of the day, you'll be less stressed, upset and/or tired for it. a warm glow will settle upon your heart, and that is its own reward.
see jennie, i'm not always a sourpuss. (nor do i use so many graemlins in a post)

Re: The Christmas Challenge
You know, it is very interesting... When someone really gets under your skin, and you react, then they take that negativity and share it with someone else, and on and on...
Think how many folks read this board. If we ALL acted differently, in grocery lines, in traffic, all over the place, what a difference we could make!
Wouldn't you rather pass on a smile then a middle finger?

Re: The Christmas Challenge
Jennie. That is a great idea. I would like to recommend that we try to extend it through the year rather than just the holidays.
Share a smile. Their contagious.
Happy Holidays to all!

Re: The Christmas Challenge
Took the words right out of my mouth SS. This should be a time to reflect lifestyle adjustments not just a 3 day hiatus from being well...you know. The only people that get under my skin are liars and swindlers and their is only one of them gracing the boards. Great to report that Bruce from Gamefishin.com and I mended our ways a few months ago and I believe it has been very good for both of us. However Bruce wasn't and isn't a liar and swindler...we just had a little falling out that ended up being a big one...for those of you that might be in the same situation...write an email or make a phone call and make it right!! Its worth it.
Lets finish this year strong on our personal relationships! Wife, husband, daughter, son, dad, mom anyone...eat some humble pie and communicate!!!
Happy Birthday Jesus!
Merry Christmas All!
Jim

Jennie does that mean you can't be mad at Ralph anymore?

I have my limits....

That rooster, no matter how nice I am to it, just spits at me. It's a tough test!

Re: The Christmas Challenge
Don't let a little chicken get to you. You know he is possessed.
I finished my shopping tonight. I just smiled at everyone. You wouldn't believe the response I got. Everyone smiled back!

Re: The Christmas Challenge
Keta, you may be funny, but I've already done real close to that.
I have tried rakes, shovels and spiked heels.

Re: The Christmas Challenge
Jennie,
You may end up having to do like my Dad did.
After repeated floggings and attempted floggings from his last "Banty" rooster, he finally had enough and got out the machete.
Voila, no more problems with the rooster.

Re: The Christmas Challenge
My kids did use a tennis raquet on one of these attack roosters. I had them convinced that I was the toughest rooster in the world by squaking and flapping my arms then kicking them across the yard. They're now incarcerated in a pen. I was out plucking feathers off of them a few weeks ago and my son caught me  . He got ****** and now I have to wait until they die to use their hackle feathers. :depressed:

Re: The Christmas Challenge
I seem to remember reading that in the old days they used a whole chicken on what looked like a grappling hook (with 1/2 inch rope for line tied off to a tree) for sturgeon bait. They used teams of Horses to haul the fish out with.
Ralph, here rooster, rooster, rooster! Muhahahhaha
