Default My Fishing Idol

The idol of my fishing career, and my Uncle, Pat O'connor, passed away yesterday in Corvallis. From my first steelhead in 1958 in His driftboat on the Alsea to trips in Central Oregon, He taught me most of what I know about fishing. Trips with Him included, Diamond lake, Crescent Lake, Crane Praire, Elk Lake, Big Lava, Paulina, as well as trips down the Alsea, Siletz, Umqua, and the Millicoma. My last trip with Him was with my dad and Him in my boat at the wind, where we slayed springers in 2007. He could catch a steelhead in a mud puddle on a double tied Oakie drifter. I was on a couple of trips with Him and Chub Miller on the Alsea that were 20-25 fish days. Oh the memories!!! A finer Man never lived, and now God will hear the booming laugh every time Pat hooks a steelhead in Heaven!!

Especially hard this morning as We always use to start Steelhead season on Thanksgiving morning at "the slot" on the Alsea. Usually a couple of fish and home for Turkey dinner.
