Letsfish, I'm hearing the same. In my experience a "late" run means a small run. :depressed: I'm not getting out to find out for myself too much so far this season however.

Hopefully the wild runs are better.

Jen hang in there, it will happen. Sounds like the run may be a little late this year from all the reports. All the low water early may have thrown them off a little as well.
Time on water = more fish

I'm not at all worried about it.

With Salmon, I get frustrated if the bite is slow, sometimes...

With steelhead, there is so much to enjoy! The crisp mornings, the drifts, the all around beauty... there is just nothing like it, and I never get bored, fish or no fish.

However, there is nothing like leaping chrome, splashing out of the water to top off your day!

The Kilchis is such a nice little river. I found some spots high up that I'm going to fish more often instead of fretting over how may people are on the Wilson.

Default Kilchis without steelies?

Just did a run from the house to the bridge.
Didn't even see one steelie in the riffles, or anywhere.
Fished all the normal spots. The river has changed so much! Holes that used to be deep are filled in.
The water is getting low, and visability is at about 7 feet.
We pulled plugs, jigged in the normal spots, and drift fished.
Nada, and we were the first boat down.
An avid steelhead fly fisherman from Seaside shot by us, saying, "You can't catch fish where there aren't any! I'm heading to the Wilson!"

So, how is the Wilson?

I still had a magnificent time! It was so good to be back on the river! We were very happy with the escapement this year. Lots of dead salmon everywhere. Got to see some nearly dead salmon swimming beneath the boat.
Always a treat to be on the river, fish or no fish!

I needed that!!!
