Took my brother from Spokane out on the Sandy at Dodge park yesterday. I went 0 for 2 and he missed his one and only take down. I pulled a real Gilligan though - had a nice sized hen on the bank but I got twisted in my line and the hook popped out as I went to grab her - all I got was a handful of tail and into the water she went. Guess that's why they invented NETS!
We were using bobber and jig setups with a jensen egg. The water looked perfect.
This is completely baffling to witness such a lack of fishing action on Sandy and Clackamas with the amount of rain we've had and with the water condition which exist there. You'd think that there were many fishing waiting to come upriver from the low water conditions we've had prior to this past storm. I went out both to Sandy and Clackamas several times last week and saw very little action. C'mon guys we all need to get together and pray to fish gods for a bountiful winter steelie season.
I think the ones that get away are the ones I remember most. I recall a large steelhead that looked to be about 15 lbs. I was reaching down to unhook the fish while half in water, the line got caught in the zipper of my vest and the fish turned and was swimming slowly out while I was frantically trying to untangle the line from the vest. I can still see that fish swim to freedom slowly as the line broke at the hook ;=)
