heard commercial crabbers are striking
heard on the news the processors are not bidding enough for the crabbers to go out. so i guess until the price goes up they will wait. just thought i would pass that along if anybody was going crabbing. i heard it was up at Astoria. so i am not sure if south of there they are striking too.

Re: heard commercial crabbers are striking
This has become common place with the ****** crabbers. I hope they never reach an agreement!

Re: heard commercial crabbers are striking
Fishplay: "******"? You need to study economics more. What the crabbers are doing is capitalism at it's finest. They believe that they aren't being fairly compensated for their labors so they've chosen to withold their efforts. In a communistic system they would be forced to work "for the good of the state and its peoples". Is that what you want?
Remember communism is man exploiting his fellow man; capitalism is the exact opposite.

Re: heard commercial crabbers are striking
****** crabbers?? If I were crabbing and the price I was getting for crab was not covering my expenses, not to mention the fact that the ocean can be a little "sporty" this time of year, I would stay tied to the dock. The crab are not going anywhere.
Supply and demand: I think they call it capitalism. No capital, no crab!

Re: heard commercial crabbers are striking
"******" is a term used to identify commercial fisherman. In this instance it's commercial crab fisherman.
I don't care if it's greed, capitolism, or communisim that keeps them in port. I just hope they stay there.
Better crabbing for me if they do!
I have a pretty good understanding of what these crabbers are out to accomplish...........I used to crab out of Lapush Wa in the winter. Loved running the block and getting paid! Hated the rest!

Re: heard commercial crabbers are striking
Fishplay, I apologize. I was confused regarding the term "******".
Here's my favorite definition of capitalism:
There is an African village whose residents fish in a crocodile infested river. They barter their catch at a town located in a nearby forest whose main industry is the manufacture of wooden legs.

Re: heard commercial crabbers are striking
Big deal, I'm not going to buy it anyway. There's only one way to get good crab, it involves pulling on a rope.

Re: heard commercial crabbers are striking
It's kinda weird ... in all the years I've commercial fished, I've
never refered to another commercial fisherman as a
"******". Nor have I ever been refered to as a "******" by another
commercial fisherman (that I am aware of ... at least not in
my hearing range). I've also never heard another commercial fisherman
refer to a fellow commercial fisherman as a "******" unless he was
making derogatory remarks about anothers' political leanings
or just looking for a fight!
-assAssin-
PS, the commercial crabbers are striking as is thier right in
a free market society (IMHO).

Re: heard commercial crabbers are striking
Mel. You're right!
Pilar's Mate: Naw, I've got a thick skin. Actually, when I read
it here I thought it was being used in a derogatory kinda way
and just ignored it. Seems like one of them kinda words that
should be avoided unless somebody is looking for a fight (IMHO).
I may be a commercial fisherman, but I ain't no stinking ******!

We all walk in different circles.
I have never heard the term used in what I would consider a derrogitory manner. It is simply an abbreaviation of commercial. Old words are reasigned new meaning in society all the time.
I was not in search of a fight FishAssassin but anyone who knows me can tell you I've never turned one down. Maybe your thick skin is thinning.
Seriously; I meant no disrespect. Hope to meet you sometime and check out that MaxCat.
However; as a point of clarification. The crabbers are not striking they are negotiating. Striking is what labor unions under contract do. The crabbers, I beleive, are self employed businessmen under contract to no one.
"Strike" is just being used in the media as sound bite material.
