My name is Rick, I've been lurking for a while, when that became a habit, thought I'd might as well jump in. First want to thank Jennie and the others that work in this community,.... the internet continues to amaze me.
I moved to Coos from Flagstaff about a year ago, and I am throughly enjoying my explorations around this fantastic part of the planet.
My handle stems from my passion for the "tug" on the other end of the line, the challenge in getting that tug and most of all the surroundings that quest takes me to.
Although I prefer to fish with a fly rod, I use what ever the speices and conditions require.... Sturgeon are awesome to catch, my first one came out like a tarpon, what a thrill, and to me, a treasure to have in this area.
I hope to learn as much as I can about the local rivers, especially the Rogue.
Looking forward to meeting a bunch of ifishers and sharing good times.
A story,
Last August I was bank fishing on the Rogue with my new girlfriend, Myong. A beautiful day with Chinook rolling everywhere, our lines are wet, hope and love are in the air

.....one of those, "It doesn't get any better that this" days..... well you guessed it..It did get better.... I set up on a nookie that proceeded to show me what a salmon feels like in a river

....I'm holding on.... watching line peel off and realize that I gotta chase after this frieght train, so off I go with Myong on my heels, net in hand, (she's rather petite, her and the net are about the same size) well it was a blast fighting this salmon up and down the river, This fish was amazing me with its power. I'm flashing back on the knots, wondering how the heck everything is holding up under this pressure, finally managed brief control, and got em in soft water.... two times... Myong doing her best to scoop em in the net, only to have him make another run, I could tell she was getting a little peeved at her misses

, I was too excited to say much except "be careful" (didn't want to start screaming lessons at her)...well the 3rd time she wades in and makes a kind of "raking leaves" move that catches the nooks head, she turns to pull him toward shore when the big nook tries to leave again, pulling her over assbackwards into the water, but she hung on!!!!! at this point I drop my rod, run up and grab her, she had a death grip on the handle and came up spittin water, both of us laughing hysterically

.... we had landed a beautiful, chrome bright 40 pounder,(a local guessed it at 45?) wish I had a video of the scene, but the memory is priceless..... and I knew then and there I had a keeper... ..... ....
It's good to meet you
Keepem tight
Rick
