Default Drift Rod Question

I am waiting for the check from my insurance company now so I can replace the steelhead rods I had ripped off. Bobber rod is no problem. Going with a TH1143S. I am stuck on the drift rod though. I have pretty much narrowed it down to these two choices:

1084C 9'0" 8-12#
or
1143C 9'6" 8-12#

How about some feedback? I have a TH1084S that my wife uses and I love the action on it. The 1084 should be excellent setup as a casting rod. What are the advantages or disadvantages of going with a longer rod like the 1143C?

There has to be more opinions on this. I need to hear your feedback so I can order a new rod.

I'm looking forward with great anticipation for my TH1084c to show up so I can put some hurt to some winter steel. Guess you know how I feel about it.

Brshooter, I have a Loomis 1084c that I absolutlely love. I do wish it had six more inches on it though. Either way, you'll be real happy with the rod for driftfishing. My opinion.

Go longer, you'll be glad you did. More line control and an extra lenght to tire out fish with. Most of my 8'6 rods hardly get used any more, except as boat rods.

I vote for the 9' 1084C IMX. Mine has been a pure joy to fish use. Sensitive and more than enough spine for the larger metal heads.

I'd be talking to that vertically challenged guy by the name B.O.E, he catches a ton of fish driftfishin. I bet he would have some good input.

Brs - Get the 1082 (6-10LB) rather than the 1084. (I own both.)

A little less power but MUCH MORE sensitivity. Ask Guide Terry Mulkey. A world of difference when it comes to feel. Also, plenty of power for any steelhead. Not Chinook, however.

I have had mine for 3 years now and have noticed a marked improvement.

Good Fishing , Drifter.

I think you are looking for an answer that does not exist!
If you were asking me.. I would say go with the 1084c.
We sell a ton of 1143 rods.. its probably our most popular rod... and everyone seems to love it as a drift rod.

If you like the action of the 1084s I'd stay with that!... just my opinion.. but we'll be happy to build you anything you'd like

I have the 1084c also and I wouldn't trade for anything. The nice thing about it is it has alot of guts to it, so if you accidentally hook an early springer (or a late fall chinook) while steelheading all hope is not lost.

The extra 6 inches and the fast action make it a heck of a rod. As far as a 1082, I don't think it has enough backbone to be able to fish most conditions, let alone if you hook a hog.

I can't say anything about the 1143 since I've never used one and don't know anyone with one.

Just some of my opinions. Hope it helps some.
