Default Let's hear those boat ramp reports

As I type this I am going stir crazy wanting to be on the river. Bernie gave me a good heads up this morning and saved me an hour and a half drive. He said the 42cnd street ramp was bad. Thanks for the heads up Bernie, I owe you one

If any of you guys and gals live close to Cathedral or Fred's could you do a guy a favor and check conditions a little later and post a report? I gotta find a way to get on the river soon before my better half starts finding things for me to do around here

TB,

I have heard a lot of reports. they all are pretty much..." If ya have 4WD, and chain up all 4, and the ramp is not too steep, and the boat is not gonna drag you down the ramp, and on and on..."

I am returning Xmas stuff this weekeds. My only free time in the next month. Tells you what I think.

Sorry, but the new truck has not learned how to swim yet.

Don't bother even trying to launch from Chinook Landing. The ramp is closed.

Road to Caterpillar Island is packed snow...someone has channeled out grooves on the ramp down to the water. Parking lot is packed snow..as well as the driveways leading in and out. You'll probably need alot of 4WD to get in and out of the lot.

I went by the kalama launch this morning and nobody had tried it yet. Look like a sheet of ice all the way to the top. I forgot my camera or I'd taken a pic to show you.

We launched today at Scappoose Bay Marina without a problem. Had to use 4-Whell on the way back the ramp but no problems launching and recovering what so ever. There were probably about 12-15 trailers int he parking lot too.

Corneillus Pass was open too, road was wet... no problems what so ever.

I'm going out tomorrow. Sturgeon 42 is supposed to be launching out of cathedral park, waiting for a call and report from kodiakfisher.
It was a warmer day and alot of sno melted, so I think I can make it out tommorrow. Confidence is high!

We put in today at Scapoose also. A little slick but no real problems. Fishing was slow... A fair number of boats out. Only saw 2 keepers.
Very soft bites

Here is Talktoelk's pic

I went to Chinook Landing and 42nd St. Chinook locked out and 42nd still ice at 3pm. One guy pulled in and thought about it at 42nd. Sparelink and I stayed to watch the festivities but he (or was it his wife  ) changed their minds

GBS,
I will be at Cathedral Park by 9:00 am in the morning as well. Blue/Green Renegade with a grey top. I'll look for ya, I will have my wife, daughter, an dog with me. I'll be on 68 on the VHF and my cell is 971-237-3609. Let's spank sme sturgies

Fish Freak,
When the bite is soft, either pick up and move or cut the size of your bait way back. Sometimes using a two inch piece of smelt will make those "soft" biters very fierce. You will spend much too long trying to hook them instead of catching them when they are just pecking at it lightly.

We'll be launching at Cathedral too, about the same time around 9ish. Four of us in a blue 179 hewescraft. We'll be on channel 68 and start in the Willamette, moving to MC or Columbia if we can't pick up a bite.
I guess we'll look stupid too. After all, four people sitting out in the cold and acting like they are having a lot of fun, that has to look pretty goofy to the non-fishers. I know I have gotten some strange looks getting my boat ready this afternoon and shoveling the snow out  .

St. Johns ramp was fine. Slushy parking lot, but lots of tracks to follow to the water and no problems with traction. Willy has some usual debris, but it's not that bad. Current wasn't all that hard either, kind of surprising to have a modest outgoing flow with all the runoff. Not sure I'd be fishing the Columbia downstream from the mouth, it looked like the debris was concentrated a bit more down the Oregon side of SI. Just have to keep one eye up front at all times...

I stopped by the Ridgefield ramp this morning (Saturday) and there were 3 trucks in the lot who had already launched and we watched two others get ready to launch (one launched while we were there). The parking lot was thick slush, but on one ramp, the traction was pretty good and the first guy managed to launch without problems.

I suspect that with a few more launches and retrievals and the warmer weather and rain that is coming that it will not be a problem retrieving from there.

We plan on heading out from Ridgefield tomorrow.
