I would always use a spinning reel for floats,It can be very difficult to cast very lightweight tackle with accuracy and distance.I use Okuma spinning reels.

In contrast, I always use a baitcaster. Control.

I use a Shimano symetry. caught quite a few fish on it last year, the drag is smooth, great reel in my opinion.

Ahh, yes, the spinning reel guys vs. the baitcasting guys. For me, the baitcaster works great 'cause I use a standard drift rig, lots of weight, with a sliding West Coast bobber. Casts like a rocket with a good quality casting reel.

Yes is the answer. Whichever you prefer. 1143c or 1143s and Curado BSF or Okuma EB30. Sweeeeeeet.

I believe the primary reason for the baitcasters switching to the spinning setup is its ability to cast light lures better. However, if you have a smooth casting baitcasting reel such as the Curado, then you don't have to make the switch. But even the Curado doesn't cast an 1/8th oz jig as well as a spinning gear. That's why I use a spinning gear for bobber and jig fishing.

It used to be a Curado, now it is a Bantam Curado BSF. Go into a store and spin the spool,, it never stops.

Shimano stradic spinning. Even handles chinook. Okuma epixor is a close second. I recommend manual closing of the bale, however.

My good ol' flugger or curado. Both cast as good as a spinning reel if not better.

I've got curado's and calcutta's and I know they won't cast a lite set up as far as my spinning. I do have a nine foot baitcast that I use for Dink floats with some shot, works great.

I have tried spinning reels with floats but didn't like them. I use a baitcaster (Abu 6500 to be precise) If I could afford it I would by a curado.
I find that it is impossible to feed out line with a spinning reel. I like to feed line on the bigger faster water.

Wally makes a good point about feeding line out with a baitcaster, very easy and if your bobber goes down just stop the spool with your thumb and hit'em.But with a little practice a spinning reel is very easy.If you get a spinning reel look at the distance between the bail and the spool when open. The larger the gap the less line slap you get coming off the spool when casting.

Most of the time I use a spinning reel. If you are going to use a bait caster, find one with a "flippin switch". Use what you have and learn to adapt.....

I swing both ways. I use a Shimano Sahara spinning reel for most float fishing with jigs, but also use the bait caster, usually when I'm throwing eggs under a float. That reel is some old relic not available anymore. I hear the Curados are good, and am looking at one myself.

If you are comfortable using a baitcaster I would recommend a Curado BSF. Even better would be a Castaic Super Free. Same reel as the curado except the Castaic SF has the insta-gage clutch which allows you to reengage the reel without even hitting the handle. Awesome reel. Little more money than the curado but when you want a reel that is quick on the re-engagement, there is none faster.

Curado BSF. Had purchased a plain Curado then tried a Super Free. Never looked back. Casts a country mile. I love it cause when the float goes down I thumb the spool & set the hook real fast. I can also "dance" the jig by touching my thumb off & on

Just bought one for a fishing buddy for X-mas on behalf of his wife. I then stuck the reel in a Abu Garcia EON box & wrapped it! Boy wont he be surprised!

what size line do you all put on the CURADO`S bsf for steelhead or salmon? ( are these reels good for salmon too?) I was thinking of getting one to start my drift fishing adventures. Also, what rod out there would be a good match for it? I have a loomis GL2 fast action med/heavy rod, would that do it?
