Default Saturday sandy river report

Drifted dabney down to lewis/clark. didnt see any fish and didnt hear of any taken. Maybe the people fishing the upper stretch did better. The water color had a nice olive green to it and there should have been fish in there. Oh well. Anybody else do any good on the Sandy?

Same luck here. Put in at L&C and ran up no fish, and didn't hear of any fish taken, except talked to 3 guys in a DB that had caught a Winter Chinook. Now these guys seemed confident that they had caught and released a Chinook, and they explained to me that the Sandy gets a small run of Winter Chinook, although I had never heard of this fishing the river for over 20 years?!

Good luck,
Andy

Banked today at Oxbow. A lot of pressure up there but did not see any taken. Not even any rollers.

I had my son an we had a new exprience. While tying up a spawned chinook swam by and parked herself where I was standing. We moved down a little and just kept an eye on her. She parked herself right behind a rock. Eventually she got turned around a moved very slowly back down, It was actually kin of sad to watch her, knowing her fate. She has probably died by now. But we did get to see first hand how it works.

I have, there used to be a pamphlet put out by PGE that talked a little bit about a winter chinook run in the Sandy.

I've also seen two caught near Oxbow-that was ten, twelve, fourteen years ago.

Fished the lower river below Oxbow off the bank for four hours on Saturday. We saw two fish landed. One steelhead off the bank (I assume it was clipped by the way it was being carried) and the driftboat couldn't be see clearly other than the net was up and they pulled to the bank. Water was clearing around noon when we left.
