Default Commercial Fishing in Till. Bay etc.

Not meaning to stir up a beehive, but it is remarkable what one can find when surfing the net. Check out the link and look at what could potentially be open and what could not.

Interesting ... It doesn't actually state that there *is* a
commercial season, only that it is lawful for the state
(in it's infinite wisdom) to create a commercial season in a
(very?) limited portion of the Tillamook Bay.

A few questions rise to the top of my pea little brain:

1) Is the state actually considering this, or has this been
an option for the state in previous years that has not been acted on.

2) Looks like this would be a commercial gill net season ... does that sound right?

3) If it is a gill net season, how many boats could/would participate?

4) Should Ifishers get concerned enough to try and stop this proposal?

I personally think that if it is a gill net season then it should be
stopped at all costs. Gill netting has a *lot* of by-catch issues
and in the Tillamook Bay, the by-catch would probably be CHINOOK.
A bad precedent to set, IMHO.

There was a Novermber gill net season for chum in Tillamook Bay until the late 60's.

I guess it hasn't been taken out of the books yet. I don't think they could do it now though, with the depressed runs.
