a night to remember with FNF, pics
I had the pleasure of fishing with Fear no Fish Steve P. at Mcnary Dam 12/11-12/12. i was visiting accounts in the area and i said to myself, let's try to see if FNF needs a partner one of those nights. i want to thank Jennie and the mods at Ifish for making this possible. i have met so many great people to fish with through ifish. on to the story:
first of all Fear no Fishes name should be:"Fish Fear Me!". Steve is a fishing animal. he puts a new meaning to the term: Eat, Sleep, Fish, Fish, Fish. hardcore to the bone and a case study on how to dial in a particular fishery. he is also one of the kindest fisherman i have ever met (more on that later).
we started at about 5 pm. water was glass and it was not cold at all. within 10 minutes of having the lines out: ZZZZZzzzzzZZzZZZZ!!!
that beautiful sound to every fishermens ear. the fight was on but i lost it. i was worried that could have been my only chance that night as FNF had a slow night (for him) the day before. i calmed down and a few passes later we landed a 37.75" hatchery buck. wow, the 3rd largest fish in FNF's boat this year. we proceeded to get fish after fish the rest of the night. i dont know if i will ever be the same. we ended up 14 for 16. only 4 were hatchery. i see FNF had to tell on me for knocking the fish off. i was boasting to him how i like to aggressively net fish so they dont get a chance to get away. while i was getting ready to net one our precious hatchery fish and yes i boned it! i was getting spoiled and sloppy. well the best part of the night was the infamous last fish. my reel got slammed hard and we knew it was good. luckily we had the 20# fireline out. as it got closer we were freakin! but we kept our cool and FNF did a great job making sure he didnt knock this one off. 41 inches!!!!! and a hatchery? biggest fish in his boat ever. i think i died and went to fishing heaven. if i die tomorrow i can rest in peace. by the way most of the action happened just like the lunar tables predicted.
i have to tell a short story about Steve's kindness. we were out on the water and no one was hooking up except us. all the boats were getting closer and closer. Steve finally yells: "k13 lighted kwikfish and shrimp!!!" most everybody are still running Vortex. we spotted a couple desperate fellas. Steve invites them over and hands them a new kwikie and a handful of the kind shrimp. he recomended they get an electric trolling motor in the future as well. he even went into the extra details that make the difference: the glow trebles that look like glowing claws, his recipe for shrimp cure and custom smelly jelly. i was impresssed. he tells alot of guys this info but most either are too stubborn to change or they think he is lying. Steve just wants everybody to catch fish and enjoy the experince. he is so giving it is amazing to see that kind of generosity. i belive in karma. fishermen like him are so good you still wont catch as many as them. guys like him make fishing my favorite sport.
Steve this buds for you. yatahay.
heres the pics:

here is the big daddy:
notice how i can barely hold him up!

Sorry, had to mess with your pictures. The fish isn't worth it if you can't see that smile.

Re: a night to remember with FNF, pics
James,
I can see that we will do a lot of fishing together in the coming years. I had too much fun. Let me know when you are passing through and we will have to beat up on the fish again! Have a Merry Christmas and see about getting a reproduction of that fish to put on your wall.

Re: a night to remember with FNF, pics
It's hard to imagine such an incredible fishery. The pictures are definately worth a 1,000 words. Just have to ask about the shrimp. Are they sand shrimp, prawns, cooked cocktail shrimp,...? Are the shrimp just hung on one of the hooks or maybe lashed to the body of the k-fish like sardine would be?

Re: a night to remember with FNF, pics
I buy coon striped shrimp. Throw em into a nalgene container. Add:
1) Beau Macs instant dye/bite enhancers
2) 2 scoops pro glo
3) Pro cure shrimp and prawn oil
4) Pro cure Kenai cocktail
5) Pro cure Garlic plus
6) 1oz. 200 proof alcohol
7) Sea salt
8) Drippings from my egg cure
This is a proven recipe.
Break off head and tail. Put curved body on front treble. It actually acts as a small keel and won't throw the action of the kwikfish or any other plug off. Get ready for a rip!!!

Re: a night to remember with FNF, pics
FNF, that's quite a recipe! Must have evolved over many years of trying various ingredients. I'll start rounding up them up.
In addition to shrimp I'm planning to try a tuna wrap night fishing for springers. Caught a few fish in Trask tidewater doing that. If the mood overcome you, you might try it on one of your rigs. I use a shop type paper towel and tuna packed in oil. Wrap it like a sardine.
You sure have the night fishing dialed in! It has to be a real thrill hearing that rod go in the middle of the night with a 41 inch steelhead pulling on it. You da man!

Re: a night to remember with FNF, pics
You guys have to remember those are pics of two different fish. Check the dates on the pictures and you can tell the difference. The 12/11 fish was 37 3/4 inches and the 12/12 fish was 41 inches.

Re: a night to remember with FNF, pics
amazing.....besides the 2 hawgs 12 other fish were boated....that is some awesome fishing....plus a wall hanger to boot.....25 years ago i caught a 40 inch steelie, but at the age of 23 i thought i would catch many more that size or larger....not.....still trying.....wish i would have mounted that fish.....so my advice is to think real hard about putting it on the wall....that fish deserves to be shown off....and to fnf....you are truly a great fisherman!!!!!!
