Default Fishing the Sandy

How does the Sandy Fish at current levels; 8.5 - 9.0? Thinking of heading over to Dodge Park to drift fish / fly fish. It has been more than a few years since I fished the Sandy, and for some reason 10.0 was the level that struck me as prime.

Thx,

The Sandy basin has such an extreme range of enviorments that 9.0 may be too much for some canyon water yet too little for some of the quieter stretches. The Dodge area is extremely versatile in that if you're willing to hoof around, low water days give you access to alot of riffles and slots, especially if you're willing to cross, while heavy flow days will put the fish right at your feet as they hug the soft water along the shore.

I've taken fish at Dodge when the water is at 14ft plus and when the river is so skinny the side channels and slots resemble a small coastal stream.

Be versatile and adjust your approach to the present water/and light conditions and your quarry.

And for the record, I prefer Dodge at 11.0 to 13.0 It's nice when those winter fish follow the soft water.

Alwayslookin,

Can you say perfect!!! You can not ask for a better level. 9.0 is ideal, anything within a foot is definately fishable. Don't get to hung up on Dodge Park, try Revenue Bridge, there has been no pressure and the water looks too good to not try. There are still lots of summers in the river, not to mention winters.

Good luck and give us a report!

Andy
