Default Casting Line?

Lately there has been a little discusion about favorite rods and reels. I'm curious what are the favorite lines out there. Both spinning and casting. I've got a new Curado on the way and would like to know what people have found casts well on it.

Thanks,

Mark

Maxima - either Chameleon or Ultragreen for casting reels.

another vote for berkeley big game. love that stuff. i've been trying maxima u-green lately. seems pretty good. jury's still out though. need to catch more fish on it (or not catch fish - gotta find where that limit on stress and abrasion is).

ampersat I have used maxima ul green before they had big game. It was good line but a little bigger in diameter and stiffer. For casting I like a softer line less bird nests when you fall asleep :depressed: if you now what I mean.

I have used the maxima ivory crystal for a couple of years now and love the stuff. I have it on my curado and fish summers and winters with it. I spoll up with the 8# and can cast it a river mile. It is so tough that there have been a couple of times that I have pulled the DB to break it off. I have even hooked and landed a 15# fall chinook and several springers on the 8# test as well. It holds up the best for the price that you pay for the amount that you get. I rate it very highly.

OH by the way, thank god for the rain.

I've been a Maxima Ultragreen user, but lately I tried P-Line 8lb on my Curado and I think it's better. It seems a bit stronger. So far so good.

I use Power-Pro on all my casting reels now. The only problem is that anything less than a 30# line will sometimes bind in itself when tight. So, I use 50#..it's 12# diameter and stronger than anything...casts like a dream and no memory.

Marlin Mark, I picked up a Curado when they first came out and it has been a dream reel ever since. You're gonna love yours. I originally spooled up Maxima Chameleon until last season when I made the switch to the Spectra fiber line "Power Pro". Hands down, that reel and that line together is the nicest casting outfit I have ever used. Currently I'm going with the 20 lb test which comes in the diameter of 6 lb mono which means I've got 150 yds on the reel plus backing. Phenomenal casts, very little drag in the water, backlashes are almost unheard of and sensitivety that will have you naming different rocks in the drift.

You do have to adjust your hook setting technique do to the lack of stretch, (I learned the hard way and snapped off a 12 lb chromer in the Sandy last year on my first day with the line, the fish came out of the water just to show me where I had left my spinner), but once you adjust you will find much less effort is needed to get a solid hookset which your wrists will thank you for at the end of the day.

Only bummer is, the last time I checked this product was on 6 month back order. Guess some other anglers grew fond of it too.

I've been using Suffix since the last Sportsman Show last Feb. and have found it to be great line. I've used it mosly in the 6 to 10 pound sizes but it has performed admirably. Priced good too.

I've used maxima, stren, and p-line before. They're good line, but the berkley big game is by far the best mono for casting. It's strong and price cheaper. I use it as my main line. Cut roughly a 2 feet section of any mono or copolymer and cross it with the big game. Then get someone to help hold the end of one line, while you hold the other end of the other line. Both of you pull back and forth at the same time. The big game will cut the other line almost every time. If the big game don't break, use the same section again until it get cut. You can even use a smaller line weight on the big game against the other brand. By doing this you'll know how abrasive the line is. The only draw back for the big game is you need a good knot or it will slip.

i've been using Maxima Ultragreen because it's the best line i've used. never tried berkely big game. i use the Ultragreen for both mainline and leader, but have thought about trying Crystal Ivory on my mainline for visibility reasons. is this any less of a line than the Ultragreen?

Fish finder I now what you are talking about big game cutting other line. About 5 years ago me and a fishing partner was fishing for summers. Some times when you drift fishing you cross over the other, well he crossed over me and I set the hook cut his line right off. So a little while latter I crossed over him and he thought pay back. He set the hook and it cut his line again. He had 10# maxima on his reel and I had 8# Big game on mine.

Maxima Ultrgreen, Chamelian brown. And lately have been playing with Power Pro. Maxima for the last 12yrs. From my 4lb trout rods to the 40lb Salmon rods. Sturgeon rods are soley Power Pro. Theres good aspects to both.
I do have to admit Power Pro is worth it in alot of ways.
Very strong with a small diameter, no stretch, floats, and
holds up well. Casts easily too.
