Found this intresting study while trying to figure out what the value of the sport fishery is for spring chinook.

www.mms.gov/itd/pubs/2000/2000-061.pdf

Last year, there were over 150,000 "sport fisher trips" A sport fisher trip = one person fishing one day. This study is from Alaska but it assesses a "value" to each sport trip. Using the methodology in the study, the least amount the spring fishery would generate directly would be over $5 millon dollars to the economy.

Default The value of sports fishing to Oregon

The state of Oregon has set the value to the state of sports angling on the mainstem Columbia for spring chinook at $28 million dollars
The value of commercial fishing in the Columbia for the same fish was set at $925,000
Pretty huge difference huh?
I got these numbers from the lobbyist for ANWS and NSIA Phil Donavan.
