Wilson steelies
I have got 2 weeks off work around X-mas, YA-HOO! Plan on making numerous drift trips
down the Wilson. Someone tell me that the winter steelies are going to be hot and heavy at this time!!!!!!! I seems like everthing is running late this year. Will the rain this week bring in the steelies? I am starting to get fishing withdrawel symptoms.

Re: Wilson steelies
I'd be delighted to help you out with your request:
The winter steelies are going to be hot and heavy at this time!!!!!!!
Don't forget who told you first. Any doubt, just ask Marilyn at The Guide Shop.
Seriously, there are fresh fish coming in with the rain and I hope you catch lots of 'em.
Best,

Re: Wilson steelies
Thanks for the blessing Sailcat!!!!!!!Wanted to go this weekend but my gal friend has differant ideas for me ( who needs a X-mas tree). She is probably going to forget what I look like for a couple of weeks. I don't get a lot of opportunities to fish steelies during the weekday's, so I plan on making the best of it. Do you fish the wilson much? Look for me in a tan and red Alumaweld if you are on the river.
Thanks
FF

Re: Wilson steelies
Hey Freak. Talk your gal into doing both. Get a permit and go out in the woods to find a tree and then do some fishing.....

Re: Wilson steelies
Great idea co-dependant! I will run it past her. Unfortunately she tends to not be the cold/wet
weather fishing type. Maybe i can just take my saw and cut one down along the river and stick it in my boat . If anybody out there is looking for a ride down the river during the week before or after X-mas, drop me an e-mail. I will have room in my boat for a few of the day's.

Re: Wilson steelies
Water level is there. I wonder what the color is? Turning brown I bet. Can't wait for it to start to clear up.

Re: Wilson steelies
From the sounds of the weather forecast I would think the rivers may be blown this weekend. 1-3" of rain in this front then the second hitting the coast Friday with equal kick. The Wilson is at 4.67 ft on the chart but the last update was like 8:45am. I'd love to be able to fish it Saturday but I'm not holding my breath. I doubt it will be dropping until there is a break in the weather system. Fun to watch though after all the low water we have been dealing with. I'm looking forward to the next river level update to see what it is really at...

Re: Wilson steelies
Wilson update Wednesday AM. Started out banking at Sollie Smith at 7:15. Color was good when we started but it was pouring non-stop. Hooked 4 steelies, lost all four. Need to rethink barbless flies. By 9:00, river turned brown and visibility dropped to 18". Headed upriver to Kansas creek. Only got one strike there and the river rose at least 6" in the hour that we we're there. I'd say by 11:00, the Wilson was running over 5.5. On the drive back to town, the river was brown all the way up to Jones Creek and it was pouring. It looks like a blowout for the weekend given the front moving in tonight.

Re: Wilson steelies
got to agree on the river level being over 5.5...I had some chores and headed down there at noon, and it seemed to me the river was running near 6 ft, so 5.5 might be the right number ??
Visibility was less than 18" and each cast just brought back leaves. There is lots and lots of debris in the water.

Re: Wilson steelies
Thanks eveyrone who responded back about the drift boat ride down the Wilson. I have 3 trips planned with 3 fellow Ifishers. That will pretty much book me up for the 2 weeks ( my son and a buddy will be making 3-4 trips). If the rain and river cooperate, we should be bonking a few steelies in 2 weeks. Good luck to all and I'll see you on the river!
