Default Elk and Six Report

Any reports from the Elk or Sixes Rivers down south. Have the rains made them fishable or have they been blown out? Suppose to be headed that way next week.

I talked to some guys in Roseburg that had been on the Elk.

They said the holes in the lower river were full of fish and Sea Lions!!

Nothing to report just yet. The river is at 3.2 and usually isn't worth fishing until is stays in the 4's. However, with the rains supposed to last all week there should be a time in there it's in good shape. However, it'll probably blow out within a day or two of that time. So either you hit it just right when it's coming up or on the way down. Hard to say when that's going to be just yet. This storm is supposed to last a while down here. Lepper is drifting it today so he might have some reports for us. He just couldn't stand it any longer.

Funny report about the seals. I saw one driving along the sixes about a mile and a half from the mouth. Pretty far out of his comfort zone there. Liable to get lead poisoning up that high. From the fresh water of course.

It's going to be absolutely miserable if you do fish. The winds are up around 50-60 mph and the rain is sideways. Too much fun for this cowboy. I doubt I'll even fish the weekend with the current report. It's really coming down so it won't be long before it's blown.

Elk River hatchery (recording) 541-332-7025. River was at 3.1' this morning, 50-100 dark fish came in. Sounds like the wind is going to be gale force

Just, just got in from the drive back from the Elk and Sixes.

It is a tuff call. The mouth of the Elk is definately not fishable today. The winds were well over 60 mph all day with gust much higher! We did fish the upper Elk at the 101 bridge but no luck, you can see the fish in the river from the bridge, but only because of the white on the fish. We fished above the Hughes house today on the Sixes but again no luck. Talked to ODFW fish checker, and he has not checked any fish at the mouth (Elk river) since the weekend and only 1 jack at the 101 bridge (Elk) but he did check 4 chromers at the culvert hole(Elk) yesterday, but of course news travels fast and the place was packed today. The fish hatchery received 100 fish on Tuesday, 80 fish on Wednesday and they were all dark. There is lot of drift boats floating the Elk even with low water, but just not producing.

Good luck if you go, watch the wind,
Andy

It is really raining right now.. and has been for several hours now.
It will be interesting to see how high the rivers come up in the next few days.

Just called the hatchery and it's blown from last night. The level is ok at 5.1 but with the first good rain of the year it's washed all the crud into the river and it's dirty brown. 3"s of rain are expected today so it should be gone at least for the weekend.
