Default Easier to catch steelhead or chinook

I don't know why but I just don't catch that many chinook. They are hard for me to hook a lot of them. But on the other hand I do a lot better hooking steelhead. I catch way more steelhead a year than chinook. Does anyone else think they can catch steelhead better than chinook or is it the other way around for you.

They're both easy to catch ...when they bite!
Seriously, right place and time it's a piece of cake. I've had days where we landed 20+ of both species--I've also had multiple day strings of no bites.
Chinook definitely present you with a better opportunity to catch 'em when they do bite--they usually just keep chompin'. Worst thing you can do is set the hook too quickly.
You usually have to be right on a steelhead bite.
Hope this helps.

from my experience, salmon are easier to hook. when youre trolling herring with the rod in your hand, there is almost no reason to miss a fish. feed him some line and then give him the wood. also have better hook-up to landing ratio. with steelhead, i hook and land (per season but lose more too) more just because i feel they are more predictable in the river than chinook in the tidewater. it takes some time to get the right steelie hook set down. even then when one of these chromers is thrashing around the hook pops out from time to time
