Not a rehash ... ethics and the internet
I'll start out by saying that this is not intended to continue the recent disagreements on the board. So don't pile on here if you want to go there ............ I do not.
I am probably not the ideal choice for this subject, cuz like many of you I have done stupid things I am not particularly proud of. You will never see me brag about or announce them on IFISH, so do not hold your breath.
I am not addressing any particular individuals. Maybe venting a little but hoping to prevent similar episodes. If this is rather obvious to you, drive on and do not be offended. No offense is intended or implied.
We are on the internet ... a public forum. You can type whatever you want, within reason and the limits of the acceptable use policy. You will get read by whoever happens to see what you wrote.
As you all know Whoever includes Law enforcement, district attorneys, ODFW officials, your Mother and other good people. Good people, some of whom will object to illegal actions or even act on a confession of a crime or a questionable action in a public forum. Others read too, some impressionable junior fishers as well as those who just lurk and figure out where to fish next weekend.
It is your responsibility to know the rules. The courts generally do not accept ignorance of the law as an excuse. Granted the rules require some diligence to reach complete understanding but they are the rules nonetheless.
If you do something illegal or questionable and post it here, expect several things to happen. They may or may not happen but expect it anyway.
1) Someone will object and flame you.
2) You may influence other ignorant individuals to do the same thing.
3) You might be charged and prosecuted.
4) Your thoughts written here will forever henceforth be given more than a casual glance by the adminisphere of IFISH.
5) BOE will put the springer skunk on you.
I'm sure there are other consequences and feel free to add to the list.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Speaking for IFISH now .... let me change hats .... We (the Moderators and others attempting adult supervision) will not condone illegal activities discussed, planned or suggested on this forum.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What I am saying here is exercise some personal responsibility.
If you cannot do that then prepare to be boarded and/or keelhauled.
If you really, really, really want to be abusive to someone who is demonstrating any of the above, please use E-mail and keep it out of my neighborhod.
?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ??????
I will now defer to my hero and Moderator Mentor, Crabbait, who said it best as follows
?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ??????
Hummmmmmm.........seems like a good place for the IFISH STANDARD DISCLAIMER!

Well said Pilar. Without some moderator supervision and guidelines, this could get really juvenile. Any and all disclaimers crack me up. Like the new one for McDonalds coffee cups. Coffee is hot, it may burn you. DUH!!!

Re: Not a rehash ... ethics and the internet
I can't believe you left out "Warning: This product contains a chemiacl known to the states of California to cause cancer and birth defects and other reproductive harm." Of course odd that that only happens in California.
Good job, you must have had a good time putting that together.
Stop, I have to wipe my eyes.

BOE, I was helping like. I figured you could pass it on to the unfortunate victim.
BTW the ifish standard disclaimer is a modern work of art, you saw it on ifish first and credit for it belongs to Crabbait. But I will add a couple more at the end just for fun.
Dunno about the rest of you but it's been a long day...... good night Mary Ellen.

Re: Not a rehash ... ethics and the internet
You know the funny thing about disclaimers is that they are put there because someone tried what the disclaimer talks about. It may seem stupid to but warnings on coffee because they are hot but because people will do anything to sue or get money, business's have to state the obvious. I still laugh when i read them though. Makes you wonder who those people are that promted the warning.

Hey UG,
You make this a better place to be!
I know in my heart that you wouldn't do anything wrong intentionally. First off you don't need to. You can catch more fish then most of the people on this board taking shots at you.
I enjoy your posts and the help you have provided.
