Default Ollie Damon's Christmas Deals

Hey gang,

I was just in picking up my reel at Ollie Damon's and I saw this stand-up holding some combo packages.

I saw several Lami NW Specials 8-12 with 5600 and 5601 C3 for $100.

Also saw some Kenai Killers 12-25 (I think) with 6500 and 6501 C3 for $135.

There were several other combo packages.

They were reconditions I'm sure but so what. I think all of them still had Warranty on the little tag.

It seemed like a great combo price to me.

Check it out. Good hunting.

I just could never think about going back into ollie damons. They were not very nice to me at all and kept a reel of mine for 6 months. Might be a good store but i think you should try to be nice to people in your store not treat them like crap.

I wonder if Ollie Damons would like to help support ifish with an ad.... Hmmm...

Anyone there, call me, if you are interested!

You might find them on the web, but I'm not sure where.

I've always been very satified with Ollie Damons and found them to be fair. Its literally the only place where you can get long-discontinued reels fixed; and I'm talking like out of production for 30 years.

Unfortunate that BigSpinner had a bad experience. No excuse for bad service but maybe one of the staff just spilled a box of a bazillion tiny reel springs? Or they were a little tense after doing inventory of a couple million reel parts?

I've been told that the owner partners with disabled worker programs to teach people new skills, employs them and helps them be self suffecient -- maybe someone else can verify this; just what I've been told, hope it's true.

I've had good luck with Damons. The only drawback was when their old store had the fire and they couldn't find my reel. After a year and a half they came up with it and only charged me for the parts. Thay have always been fairly friendly and helpful with suggestions.

For those of you with Ollie experience....I have in my possesion a Penn reel called a "Squidder". It seems that the drag is not what it once was. Do you think these fellas can fix it?

Thanks in advance,

Mark

I would be shocked if they couldn't fix it...Doug has always been good to me and they have the unbelievably uncanny knack to go into the back and find exactly which widget I'm looking for.
And yes, most of the repair guys back there are in wheelchairs and love to fish the North Fork Nehalem hatchery.
They're located on Grand (I think), right next to Andy and Bax...kind of one-stop shopping for outdoor stuff...
The other good place is Great American Tackle across from the Clackamas Fred's at 205 and 224....Gary sends his reels out, though

Ollie`s web site: http://www.olliedamon.com have sent a 6500 to them and works like new, have been into their store and all have seemed real good and knowledgeable. I am sure they can fix your squidder marlinmark.

I have sent people there for years and have never had anyone complain.

I was very impressed when they came down to Medford and addressed the F and G Commission to lobby for more handicap fishing access. To me that is someone that is really willing to do what they can do!

I've dealt with them for over 20 years without any problems. If the reel is still made they will have the parts and can fix it.

I too have had good experiences there and recommend them highly.

But hey everyone, Jennie has a point!

When you go in there, let them know you heard it on ifish and they really should be running an ad for all the exposure they are getting!

Thanks guys,

I think I'll drop off the Squidder and see what happens. And, of course, I will let everyone know the results.

I have been relatively pleased about the service there, I have however had an issue with parts ordering on my Penn reels :depressed: . They don't carry much in the way of blue water reel parts in stock but, I think the issue was with Penn dogging the orders for 4 weeks .

I talked with one of the guys that run the front counter about Penn service, and he mentioned that the president of the company had recently stopped by the store. The parts issue has been worked on for a while now.

Ollie damons gets my vote for best local reel service, on common reels such as abu, daiwa, shimano, but I may think twice before taking my deepsea stuff back.(nah probably not)

Well, I haven't had any personal experience with them but have a good friend who swears by them. He has been working with them to develope a harnes that will allow his brother ( who has a handicap) to hold the rod and set the hooks himself. Sounds to me as if they maybe an ok place. I had them replace the drag washers and a couple other small parts on my Shimano TR200 last month. The reel is like new again and only cost me $22 to fix. They had it done when they said they would, that' always nice.

MarlinMark,
I took my "Sqidder" in to have a problem fixed last spring. They cleaned, adjusted and shaved the spool to balance it. Total cost $6.45. It works better than when it was new!
They also sell extra spools.
I don't know of anyone who isn't happy with there work or there prices.

I don't think to store is bad. But they treated me bad I brought in my stradic because it would reel backwards sometimes. They said it would take two weeks to fix and I got my reel back six months later. Like I said the store is not bad and i would tell people to go there but i wount. And I must have caught him on a really bad day one of the many times i called to ask if my reel was done. Because he said "i bet you dont fish much because if you did you would know these things take time" I go fishing over 50 times a year easy for salmon and steelhead but i just smiled and said nothing.
