steelhead challenge rules
The "steelhead challenge" rules
Some rivers have bigger fish than others so this is how we will keep track.
After all the e-mails i am changing the rules(FOR THE LAST TIME).
This will be a 2 day event saturday January 11th and sunday the 12th.You can fish either day or both but only use one days catch to get your score. The best of the 2 days.
1) Total "number" of ( steelhead ) taken or released divided by the number of fishers on your team to get your average per person. Bring a pen and keep it honest. Just keep track of the number of fish caught. Its all in good fun anyway.
2) 2 to 6 person teams, sled, drifter or bank. All teams must have a caption to take all of the responsibility and baton for his/her team.
I want to keep at least 2 people on a team so that you have to get to know other i-fishers.
I do understand if you live someplace where you cant find others to fish with, if this is you then you can be solo, but try and find a partner for the day.
3) The boat/bank caption gets the baton for there crew. In the event of a tie, one "just one"(24hour) poll will decide the baton holder.
4) The winning boat/bank caption gets the steelhead challenge trophy (I will even
buy it) . In the event of a tie, one "just one"(24hour) poll will decide the trophy holder.
5) You can fish any river those 2 days that you want in oregon or Washington, but must post results and pictures that by Sunday the 12th by9:00p.m. to qualify.
6) All fishing must be legal and held to the highest standards. we are representing i-fish so keep it clean. When your tag is punched your done.
7) we can have a get together the next Friday night to award the prizes. Must be present to win.

Rule#6 since the boat captain shall retain the official baton. It would only be rational that bankbound shall be ineligable to recieve the baton.!!

I'm in for a steelhead challenge. You can put me on the list.

Sounds like fun. Open it up for boat or bank. Perhaps narrow it down to a specific area that offers multiple streams. Would be nice to get togeather after words some where....

I'm in. Boat or Bank, open it to all. Either day works for me (I hope). Smack talk adds to the fun, but I think I may keep my flappin to a minimum this time around!

Re: steelhead challenge rules
Wiz,
I missed the sturgeon challenge due to prior committments. But put me in for a team. Not sure if we will bank or boat. I do like Cohodependant's idea of meeting somewhere afterward. Maybe a place can be chosen by river so those outside the metro area can meet with others in their area.

Any weekend works for me.

Re: steelhead challenge rules
I know.... If the waters right, lets all head over and fish the Kilchis. That way we could stop by Jennie's place and warm up for awhile before continuing down the crick... The Kilchis should fish 30 or 40 boats, don't ya think?

Or, if Jennie doesn't want us to stop, we could decorate the boats with flowers and it could be like the rose parade. Yeeehaaaawwww

Re: steelhead challenge rules
You got it SS.
How about a point system?????
Just a suggestion:
Winter Chromer 5 points/fish
Summer Red 3 points/fish
Fish up to 10 pounds 1 point/fish
Fish 10 to 15 pounds 2 points/fish
Fish over 15 pounds 4 points/fish
C&R Native 2 points/fish
C&R after daily limit has been met 1 point/fish
What do you think?

Re: steelhead challenge rules
One heads up Madwizard is that the Sandy Chapter's Frost Bite Follies (our fishing, hot lunch, and wacky social outing) that usually means somewhere around 13 additional drift boats on the Oxbow to Dabney drift on the Sandy will be happening on January 11th.
If that affects your decision (some of your favorite water) I am sorry.
Just thought I would let you know.

Re: steelhead challenge rules
A Saturday-Sunday event would be good. Teams can substitute players who can only play Saturday with ones that can only play Sunday to keep the team full. Combination of the two days catch.
Okay, so I'm trying to stretch it out so us Sunday anglers can play.

Re: steelhead challenge rules
I can't believe my luck. Just what I have been waiting for. Sure Team Sneakin' Out is in, yeah, that's the ticket. Do I need Crappie Heads for this occasion too? MUHAHAHAHAHA!!!
I do think that if possible that we should not limit the number of people on a team. It is a bit more efficient to fill the spaces available in a single vessel. This might allow the addition of people who need seats and reduce the number of vessels.

Re: steelhead challenge rules
Rich,
Looks like you correct on that one:
Oregon
Unlawfull
14. Continuing to angle for the same type of fish after taking and retaining a catch or possession limit. Exceptions are provided
for in bass fishing tournament regulations, and anglers may continue to angle for sturgeon provided all subsequent fish are
released.
Washington:
Unlawfull
Continue to fish for salmon after the adult
portion of the daily limit (freshwater) has
been retained, or after the daily limit has been
retained for marine waters, except that
where a saltwater license is valid each
fisher aboard a vessel may continue to use
angling gear or shellfish gear until the daily
limit of food fish and shellfish for all licensed
and juvenile anglers aboard has been
achieved.
Ours just mentions Salmon. Meaning that (it think) You can C&R game fish after your daily limit.
Oh well it was just an idea.......

I'll see if I can get 2 other Idahoeans... er...Idahoagoneons....er...Idahosebags...ummm....S puds together for a run up to the Clearwater. I hope you all will let Clearwater fish count (it is a tributary of the Snake, which flows into the Columbia). If so then I'm in!

Re: steelhead challenge rules
I'll be there either day. I would also be looking for a team. I am bankbound, so I can team up with some other bankies, or will take a spot in a boat if open. It will be the Sandy for me.
Let me know if anyone is interested. Just make sure you know how to fish because I plan on winning.

Re: steelhead challenge rules
Can I pick my crew?
If so I want Newtrons kid-Buzz Neutron right?
And BRs******* wife. If memory serves( it does, know thy enemy- then fish downstream of them. Or they will long dog ya on all the fish) she was the #1 reason for steelhead mortality last year on the NF. If I can't pick, I think I have to hang x-mas lites that day.
An acceptable substitute would be FWF. But he ain't allowed to row.
Can I fish a rod for the dog?
