Yammering: To talk persistently or volubly and often loudly.
Braggart: A loud arrogant boaster.
Braggadocio: empty boasting, arrogant pretension, cockiness.
A rose by any other name, is still a rose.
Sorry, I just don't see smack talking as a redeeming quality for mankind.

Re: No really, this is the real, real, real sturgeon challenge poll
Relax C&E, none of the above definitions apply to you, do they?
I went to the old school and was taught that integrity and respect for others was very important.
I guess I just don't understand this smack talking thing. It just doesn't seem like the type of thing we should encourage. Isn't it basically disrespecting and bragging? What am I missing here?

Yes greybeard but it is all done out of a loving and kind relationship between catch and eat and madwiz! They feel so deeply for each other that ....ummm uuhhh...well you get the idea

Anybody try tabascco on their crow. I'm having a hard time choking down the last few bites. And then I get this package with a piece of the baton in it with postage due, what;s up with that.

Re: No really, this is the real, real, real sturgeon challenge poll
C&E, I don't know you, can't recall meeting you, so don't take my above comments personally. The only reason I singled you out is because you started the smack talking thread and appeared to be the poster that had the most posts on it.
I have two problems with trash talking. Firstly, there is a reason that the National Basketball Association has banned it from their games. To many fist fights because of it. There is a fine line between a humorous barb and an insult, and maybe what was given as a good natured barb my be taken differently. Especially between people that don't know each other that well. This is magnified even more when communicating with a keyboard, because the other person can't see the expression on your face or your body language when you said it. Your reaction to my above post is an example of that. It doesn't matter how I meant it, it is how you perceived it.
The other problem I have with it is that youngsters grow up believing that it is okay to talk trash and may not be mature enough to know the difference between good natured ribbing and just plain insulting someone. I think parents and teacher are still trying to teach the children to respect one another. Kids are impressionable and do come to this safe haven website. Are we letting them know that trash talking is okay?
I vote less smack talking and more integrity

Re: No really, this is the real, real, real sturgeon challenge poll
I hope all involved in Smack talk know that it's all in fun, there for I see no problem with it. There are alot of people with integrity on the ifish board, I have alot of respect for many ifishers. We are talkin smack not trash talk, If anyone posted any smack then they can't point the finger at anyone for doing it. If a person does not like to be involved in the smack then that is their choice. I came down pretty hard on a few people and I hope they were not , I saw or heard of no one that was mad. Fishing and smack go hand in hand with the guys I fish with and if i could not take it I would not go with them. We all make a choice be in volved with people whether on ifish or the people we fish with. So I say let the smack talk continue as long as it is clean and if you do it at all don't point a finger at others.

Re: No really, this is the real, real, real sturgeon challenge poll
There is a fine line when smack talking. A little ribbing is a good thing, i think. It keeps us humble. The people on the smack talking thread like it and even enjoy when someone comes up with a good funny about them. I am one that probably does take it as far as i can. All in fun, but i do. Most of my line pushers this time were with "Mel" . I have never meet Mel but i hope he knows that i respect him and his lack of fish. . If someone doesn't want the smack talk about them or feels that something was said that is a little to far they can make that known and they will get a public apology from me. All in all, its just good ribbing, like when someone in you boat whiffs on a fish. Have you ever said "a swing and a miss".Your not bashing him, your just funning him. I personally thought that the smack talking thread was one of the funest and funniest things I have been involved in, in a long time, other then the Christmas party . there is room for all smack talkers and non smack talkers in all i fish events. I know some people will never agree with my way of thinking and I may not with theres, but I hope we can under stand each others way of thought and respect there oppinion.

You want to know what integrity is, you might want to meet C+E. Honest.
But then again, integrity is just someones opinion.

Madwiz - wouldn't have hung out in the kitchen if I didn't like the heat. My only regret in all this is that I didn't get to meet you yet and shake your hand. Hmmm.. Mad - you ever been TUNA fishing?
All in fun guys - I'm laying out my waypoints to take Miss B up the Smackamas river for the big Steelie event right now! Water- we don't need no stinking water! Dang the drift boats - full speed ahead!
