Default My reel update

About a week ago I asked your opinions about reels. I got great info and spent the last few days researching reels. Considering Types and cost I finally made my choice. I Purchased the AbuGarcia Ambssadeur 6500c4. I got it at Fishermans outdoor marine and supply in delta park, portland OR. It was on sale for $78. I had them put on 150 yrds of tuf-line xp at 50 test. Thanks to everyone who gave me info to help make a smart Decision. I'll let you know when I hook the first fish.

I hope they REALLY put the line on tight. When you push on the line it whould feel like a rock. Any give at all and the line could burrow into itself and you will have one big problem!

Two techniques to ensure it is one tight enough:
1. Tie the end to something substantial that has some room around it (goal post at the HS football field, fencepost at the local pasture, etc). Then back up until you are nearing the spool, tighten the drag down ALL THE WAY and reel yourself in while maintaining as much pressure as you can. Or,

2. Wrap the line from the reel onto an empty spool or around an empty 2 litre jug, etc. Find something that will protect your hand from friction (I use a small piece of leather cut from an edge of one of my buck skins, or a piece of an old leather glove, etc.). Fold the leather over the line and grip as tightly as possible between the thumb and forefinger. With the drag completely tightened down, reel the line back onto the reel. You will have to take frequent breaks or you will have seriously cramped fingers.

To test for tightness, tie the end of the line to an immovable object, tighten the drag, stuff your thumb, point the rod at the object and back up. If the line even starts to burrow, stop and completely re-tighten the line as above.

Good reel and good line!. You did good!
