Default Steelhead on a Spinner

Two days ago I went to a nearby river after work to try for some winter chrome.
I got to my spot drifted eggs and a tiny chartreuse sparkle corkie; that did not produce. Then went to a bobber and a First Cast Jig, pink & white then purple & cherise still nothing. I was getting ready to leave and thought try a spinner, so I put on a # 4 Blue Fox with a barbless siwash. I made several dozen casts, and the last one I casted up river 10 feet off the bank on the side I was fishing. I started to real slowly then my spinner stopped. I thought dang snag, and then the snag shook its head  . I set the hook and fish on it was a 6-7 # native. That was the first steelhead on a spinner for me. ......Ross

You have the right mentality: If it ain't working, do something different. Doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting a different result is a clinical sign of mental instability...and a poor fishermen.

The first steelhead I caught on a spinner was a summer hen 2 years ago on a #4 blue bluefox.

I've caught hundreds of steelies, but never one on a spinner...I've gotta start practicing!! I've caught plenty on spoons, so I'm assuming the "fight" is similar!!

Congrats!

For 25 years about all I used for both winter & summer steelhead was yarn, did pretty well. I started using spinners in addition to yarn about 5 years ago, found them to be deadly, especially later in the season once the water warms up a bit. The other nice thing is that they catch springers just as well as they catch steelhead.
