new guy
been lurking awhile, thought it was time to come to the surface. born in the state fifty some years ago. fished as long as i can remember. passed along to my boy some 20 years ago. i'm not allowed to fish alone any more, due to my habit of falling frequently. i guess the family is afraid they'll lose me or something. not real smart on their part. fortunately, my boy and freinds spend enough time on the water, when i can break away, there is always someone to go with. I don't tend to catch a lot these days, and don't really care that much. just getting out is ok, and a few times each year i put myself in a position to catch lots. pinks in bc on 4wt rods, evening hatch at hosmer, upper dean rainbows. all highlights of the year. i enjoy watching fish caught almost as much as catching, and watching is a lot easier on the forearms. i'm rambling so i'll spit it now.

Well Dave, you've been around long enough to have some great fishing stories! Let's hear one of them, it's tradition around here for the newbie to tell a story! Welcome aboard.

Re: new guy
A little background. As a kid, my family took camping vacations down sround the Siltcoos area. A lot of fond memories from that area which I decided to pass on. My boy and I started camping there when he was 5. Every year, same time of year, same camp site. We'd fish the big lakes, puddle lakes, rocks on the coast, and jetties. We were there in may of 95. My dad had suffered a stroke which completely dis-abled him earlier in the year. We finally got him out of ICU and into a nursing home, so I decided to take a few days with my kid. We'd been there a couple days, with moderate success. We got back to the camper to find a note from the OSP to call home. I was informed my dad had passed on during the night. When I called my mother, ans told her where we were, she said to stay and not hurry back. There was nothing I I could do and my dad would want us to be down there. I sat my son down and told him the unfortunate news. We voted we'd spend the night, fish the morning session and head back after lunch. The weather had been real ugly until the next morning. The sun was shining with no wind and we skipped breakfast to get out on the water. I shold have guessed the old man was with us. We caught and released 20 in the first hour. We had double hookups on a number of occasions. We kept a pretty nice stringer that day, with five over 20". It turned out to be one of the most memorable days on the water for me. I've had better days, fish wise, but I think that day, under the circumstances, gave me the appreciation of what fishing is truly about. The effects of spending quality time with family and freinds doing what is our heritage and priveledge.

Re: new guy
Hey Dave. I hope I can share times with my kids(when I have some) like you've had. I am still new to the fishing seen and look forward to reading and listening to what you have experienced. Any time you want to pass along a tip or two I am all ears. Thanks and welcome.

Re: new guy
Dave I just read your story and had tears in my eyes. I have just lost my father and have been thinking of all the times we spent fishing together. Your story really touched me. Hope to meet you some day on the water. Welcome abord.
