Default STURGON Challange - Pass the BATON my way!!!

Well, sorry this took so long, after the challange I ran up to Hood River to hide for a day and fish steelhead, I will post a report on another thread.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The BATON is all mine... hand it over, I deserve it.

I stunk bad, really bad, I have to admit it.

I stunk so bad I didn't catch a single fish! Not even a single solitary little shaker fish.

Who would have believed that? I have never been sturgon fishing and not gotten at least 1 shaker. Never once. Not in my whole life.

There is not even any place for blame on my team mates... they tried their hardest to get into some fish. I stunk so bad that they couldn't even get a single keeper. My skunk put the stink on the whole boat! I stunk so bad that they only managed 5 shakers total... for the boat.

We tried different spots... Kelly Point, Vancouver Docks, put the boat on the trailer and up to the fishery, where they sat in the miserable cold and wind waiting for me to catch a fish. Towards the end, in a final desperation move, I even put my pole away and used the spare boat pole and stole some of bankbounds bait.... no luck.

Blame it on Madwizerds "looks like a banna" boat? Nope. The boat ran like a champ, new starter and all.

Blame it on Bankbounds lack of expirence? Nope. He had the hot rod (for shakers at least).

Blame it on Fishbaits thievery and pranks? Nope. He was the ONLY entertainment we had.

When looking for someone to ridicule and scorn, dont blame any other members of team Fish Taxi, send it all my way.

I was the stink, the whole stink, and got nothing but skunk.

I deserve the baton fully and it total. If anyone has a better claim, lets hear it, otherwise PASS THE BATON BABY!!! - IT'S ALL MINE!!!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Heres some pics of the big stink

Leaving the dock...

Fog south of Kelly Point

First Spot, behind the barges... nothing but stink.

Fishbait with a large "bottom" fish!

Wow! Nice pictures!

I think I would be hesitant to give you any fishing baton after seeing the salmon/steelhead pics you posted a while back. Seems like it might be like handing a baton to a ninja.

UG...you had no chance from the git go. I coulda told you that the Mad Wizzard can turn the bite off quicker than a Baby Ruth in a swimming pool. He should change his moniker to Eyeore.......nothin' but bad luck. Just be thankful to be alive after riding in the fog with Wiz at the helm.

ugly green, you should have been with me. I got soooo tired from reeling in all those shakers that my wife and me caught, we even managed to land a 47" before we had to leave around 2:30. I even tried to jinx the day when I brough a brand new pole, but it turned out to be the hot pole. I seen madwhizzard go by and go into the fog on a dead run. I sure hope he slowed down when he got into the thick stuff. anyway it was a great day on the river and the meat goes into the smoker today

UG - Going to have to split that thing. I didn't hook a fish all day either. It's NOT the first time for me though! I'm well practiced at it.

I did however get to soak a squid in Pete's drink when he wasn't looking. That was worht the trip!

Only 7 keepers for the day? Ok, splinter the thing up and send us our pieces. It's going to cost more in postage than the gas I spent hunting! At least we are in good company!

Uglygreen, you mean the person voted most likely to succeed in trash talk could'nt even put ya on a nibble non the less a shaker??? Great Scott man where did you buy your bait, Miere and Frank in the perfum section? And ya had Fishbait with ya ta boot? Definitly sounds like team "Gilligan" to me.

What do ya think Fishin Eddie. Sounds like we may have a winner or two in this group. At least we had tons of shakers so I don't see a BATON in our future plus we put at least a very respectable keeper in the boat too. I am wondering if we should award the crow and BATON to UG. We will need to conference this baby and post our decision.

Don't be too hasty in your decision, read this first!
Quote:
Well I guess I can't hide any longer.

I will take a healthy heaping batch of that Crow!

We braved the cold, windy conditions at the Fishery. I had a last minute change in my crew. Ended up with two rookies plus me.

NO KEEPERS!!!!!!

4 Shakers.

All caught by the ROOKIES

SO NO FISH FOR ME, NOT EVEN A SHAKER!

So to all of you other Sturgeon smack talkers,
I sincerely appologize, I am not worthy.

I deserve every snide, rude, disrespectful, ugly, hurtful, mean, nasty comment you can throw my way.

I am off now to make my stew.......lets see I have : crow, smelt, squid, herring, sandshrimp, humility, noncatching sturgeon rod, bare hooks, frostbitten fingers, wind chapped nose, unused stringer, one bottle of sturgeon feast for flavor..........did I leave anything out?

Well at least the rookies caught fish, they had a great time!
Comment from rookie #1: "Hey this is easy, we caught fish on our first trip out"
Captain's reply: not appropriate for this forum.

So, now I will skulk back into obscurity, if you need to find me just follow the skunk trail, at the end you will find a very large crow!

Had fun anyway, Scott

We kept thinking maybe we should move down to Kelly point, nah, the bite will turn on anytime, well if it did, it was after dark. We did have a fun time trying to stay anchored, with the top up it was like a big sail, saw a few other boats with the same problem.

Who was that wise guy that said the winds were 5-15mph and why was I foolish enough to listen to him

Well maybe next time.

Tacklebuster, we still need to hook up so you can show me all of your "no longer" secret spots. Sounds like everybody was out looking for you, way to throw them off of waterdog's trail!

UG; Team 21
Unfortunately we had a day like I have never had before. First the NEW 460 ran like a lawn mower engin We could hardly pull the anchor. Then the barges come buy at bonie, and the wind blows like crazy and to top it of we cought only one maby 12 inch sturgeon.
This is the worst trip I can ever remember. The only good thing I had a heater to keep the cold out,and had a couple of grate new people that we exchanged storyes with. We had nothing else to do all day.
I hope we do this again so I can redeem myself. After all, I just new after Skrimmys and my smack we would win. HA HA

Boy I wish I had seen these posts sooner. I would have put you guys in the Baton Poll. Darn!!!! Still you caught a fish. That is more than UG did, but less than his "team" did.

You should have gone to Kelly Point like I posted. then this embarrassment would have been less. Of course you could have gone down to the etuary like the AD11 Adventures did and banged real fish.

Ad11 Adventures definitly won the Challenge but there are so many loosers out there it will be tough to award the baton.

UG seems to be the front runner. Fishright is running a close second and the Madwizzard is a close third. Who would have thought that a team of ringers on the "Fish Taxi" would play like the blazers at crunch time. Just one of those days aye boys? Been there. Done that.

Desperate times indeed!

Don't feel too bad Ug, I didn't get a nibble either. My pole bounced a couple of times. I think it was the lead moving on the bottom.

I think the Baton should go to whoever picked that day for the challenge. The weather was great, but the bite was slow to none.

There you have it folks. Fishisabonus thinks the picker of the date should have the coveted BATON. What do ya say Fishin Eddie? You picked the date brother. The lady says it should be yours.

Fishisabonus, you got to admit that it really, truly, was a fantastic weather day in the Kelly Point area. If you had had the correct bait in the correct place you would have had more than just bouncing lead. Not that you would have got a keeper but at least a shaker. Might want to put the blame on your captain. Just kidding ya a little.

I would have to agree that this fishing was very lack luster a best. I have not had a poor day like that for a long time when sturgeon fishing. Usually my salmon fishing is like that but that is another story  .

I think that it is interesting that when a flotilla or challenge is made that the fishing always seems to stink. I think these fish know we are coming and make an exit. Hopefully, if we have a steelhead baton or when the springer baton comes around the fishing will be much better.

We had the right bait. Mine was 41 inches. An inch to shy. Now if only I would have brought them growth pills with me, I could have shoved a few of them down its mouth and then watched it grow some.

I think that we should have started doing what hogmaster was doing, he was sure hooking them in all the "right" places.

Now why fishisabonus did not get anything was cause she was using a new rod.
