Fly Roddin Coho across the bar????

Yep, planning a trip to Fly Fish for Coho across the bar in Astoria. Anybody got some good fly patterns they want to share with me?

The last two years on the Rogue I have done well with red flashabou and a touch of green marabou tied on a #4 or #6 shank. Not sure if it will work for the area you are in though.

I think I would use an 8-weight rod, short leader, and a bare hook with a chunk of herring on it. Should be a blast!

I've done it myself and have used decievers with a blue topping. I use a full sinking line but I usually wait until we troll into a bunch of them and then whip out the fly rod for the frenzy! I've done great! What a blast!

When are you planning this trip for fly rod coho? I hope you are waiting until next summer. You would be hard pressed to find coho in the Astoria area this time of year.
