Here is an article the was in the paper today. Looks like we should start saving those old lures for ebay and pay for our expensive habit with the proceeds...

Have a Nice day and No you don't have any old copper lures - your wife sold them at the garage sales this summer...

I don't know about the lure, but I DO have a $100,000.00 fishing habit!
Actually, I do have a number of old vintage lures I'm saving for a rainy days. Love the old classic stuff.

Wonder what the boys could fetch for some antique carrot juice, or does it have an expiration date?

Gottafish,

I have a very good reference giude/ book that has the general appraisal for all fishing lures, rod, reels for the last 100 years. I have quite a bit of old stuff and I have been able to find every item in this book. You could either shoot me a picture of your lures or I would be glad to hook up and you could take a look to see if you could find them in it. Shoot me an email and we can figure something out.

After reading that article, I went to my garage and pulled out an old fly reel I had. It is a Pflueger Hawkeye from the early 1900's. I did a google search and found a collector. After he looked at the pictures he offered me $450! I found that they are selling from $300 to $900.

I also have an old wood Rapala that is worth about $35. I had the most success finding out by typing the name of the lure or reel into the google toolbar and checking the hits. You can check ebay, go to advanced search and select completed auctions only and it will tell you what sold in the last 3-4 weeks or so. I don't know how to get archive information any older than that.

One of the hits I found is Old Fishing Stuff Dot Com . It's got a lot of information including more info on the $100,000 lure sale.

Crazy stuff! According to my bro, a collector who held the record up til now, the guy would have bid any amt. to keep it out of the hands of an investor.
Gottafish or anyone else who wants a resource for appraising lures, send me an e-mail.
