Re: Lowrance X-15
I had a 350A that had water intrusion 3 years in a row. The last time it died they had also quit making that model so they gave me a deal on an X-15 instead. They are not very hearty and I will not purchase another Lowrance fish finder when this one dies. You might check out Furuno instead.

Re: Lowrance X-15
I know the fish are in the water but a good fishfinder is sure entertaining. I have had a $599 Interphase Advantage go out on me twice, $125 to fix both times, last time it ended up in the Wind River. Now that wasn't a good decision but it happened in the middle of Springer season 2 years ago. Now the $699 Lowrance goes out and now they want another $169 to fix. Chuck it in the river? No, it will get fixed once and then it gets deep sixed! Who has their favorites out there?

Re: Lowrance X-15
Steve, if it's entertainment you want, how about a cheap battery-operated portable TV. Between that and the boombox, what more entertainment could you want?
Here's an after thought - - move some things around and make room for a recliner.

Re: Lowrance X-15
Born to fish,
That would not be a good idea. I was trolling the buoy line about 3 weeks ago and the next thing I knew I was about 2 miles up river passing the park on the Oregon side. Can you say dead asleep! I knew that the dreaded "Fishing is Life" disease was contagious! I always bring the java now!

Glad you didn't meet up with one of them big flat rigs known to ply those waters.

Re: Lowrance X-15
Lowarance sent me 2 X-16CI's before I got one that worked as well. Water in the first and a loose display cable in the second. But they fixed it, were nice and even paid my shipping. Times must be a changing?

Re: Lowrance X-15
I keep saying I'm going to upgrade when mine dies but the darn thing keeps on and on and on. It's an old portable battery(2 big flashlight battries) powered Humminbird Platinum ID.
It has been dropped on concrete, rained on, snowed on and I let it ride in the back of the boat while trailering and although strapped down it gets jarred around I'm sure.
Best/Only finder I've ever owned. I'm going to buy a new one when it dies. If they still make them I think I'll buy another Hummingbird.

Lowrance X-15
6 months out of warranty and she rolled over and died on me last night. Water some how entered the buttons. Called Lowrance this morning and they said they would repair it for a flat rate of $169.00. Very disgusted. No, it was never immersed in water, just rained on hard last trip out. Gonna look at a genetron next.

Re: Lowrance X-15
The factory had to send me two brand new units, before I got one that worked correctly. Not to mention the original one I bought at fishermans. My warranty expires in April. :depressed:

Re: Lowrance X-15
The Lowrance models are good machines not great... that is when they work. They hold up well in a boat with a cover/cabin protected from the elements. The problems I had with the 350A all occurred while running an open boat in the rain. They are not as waterproof as they claim to be. There customer service is pretty decent I think. Their transducers are also prone to failure. I'm on my second one on the X-15 in three years. They're not cheap either.

Re: Lowrance X-15
Denali is right on. All these units are "waterproof" --- sorta. I keep mine covered in the rain.
FNF --- You should not even need a fishfinder! It is unfair that you even use one. There should be a rule that slayers like you can't use one. Pore fishies....

Re: Lowrance X-15
I've been asking some friends about fish finders this week. Been considering installing an "electronics box" in my open sled, sounds like it may not be a bad idea to keep things dry/safe.
I would like a unit with dual frequency transducer (wide/narrow cones), high/low range settings.
I really don't need a big screen or GPS.
I've got a bottom line and have had good luck. Broke off the speed wheel thingy and they sent me one no charge
Any thoughts on wide cone meters?

Re: Lowrance X-15
My Garmin has been sitting out in the weather without the (lost) cover since summer. Still works.
