Default how far is to far????

how far do you you like to have your front rods out when you pull plugs and do you like it the same length with a diver and bait? I love to fish a hot-n-tot and pink worm and discovered that I put it out a lot farther then other guys I met and they thought I was a little odd?

In my drift boat, I sometimes fish the gear as close as 2.5 back and forths on a 5001. That's about 30 feet of line. I only do that for a couple of tight little spots. Normally I like 4 or 5 back and forths, which is about 50 to 60 feet of line.

I use the same distance for bait divers as for plugs. It seems to work fine.

I'm the same, I run my plugs out 60 feet and use the same for diver/bait as well. Some holes where I fish most I'll change it up some but for the most part that's it. I also mark all my rods with a bobber stop to indicate the distance to let them out. This keeps everything lined up which I believe is very important.

I'ld like to here more about your diver/worm setup.

thanks guys,

I usualy fish about 75 back I geuss it is kind of long i just look at it as I am getting my bait there well be fore me.

But as for the pink worm and a diver. I just thread the pink worm as you would on a drift rig put it on about a 3-4 foot leader and tie it off like I would a diver and bait usually with a hot-n-tot. I will ocasionaly put a spin n glo in front or a cheater in pink or green and it wourks great!!

Jeff, Distance and presentation position can be very important. The type of water, depth etc. Lets say you are running plugs in a hole the runs deeper on one side and tapers out on the other. I run the plug in the deeper slot out in front(longer) than the one in shallower water. You may not entice the fish in the deeper water and it will move away from the presentation..... It will then have to contend with the next plug. If your pulling through a long straight run, then both presentations can run at the same distance from the boat. Just make the offerings stay in their face a little longer!

It all depends on the size of the river, plugs, or particular spot you are fishing. There's nothing set in stone but I don't worry about the boat spooking the fish too much.

It also depends on the condition of the water you are fishing. If it is off color I will keep them fairly close if it is low and clear I send them out a ways.

All water is going to present different situations to consider. How fast the flow of the river is, to how deep the stretch your fishing, etc...etc...etc. Key in on the lengths you have confidece in, and make sure to watch your rod tip for action imparted by the plug so you know you are in the zone and fishing.

Keep the plugs at the same distance and watch the action to make sure they are all working. Good bait is important on diver and bait rigs. Very sharp hooks can make a big difference in hooking fish or missing them. The bobber stop method works great for getting the plugs out at equal distances. Good luck!
