Default Cured Shrimp

I have a question about curing shrimp. I want to cure my own shrimp like the ones you see in GI Joes. What type of shrimp are they. And are they cooked or uncooked when you buy them. The ones that I have found are cooked, does this matter?

I believe they are bait prawns and I know you can get them through Pacific Sea Food by the case. I am not ssure if they just dye them or use a cure. I knew a guy who used them on the upper Clack right out of the box and killed the steelhead on them. That was a while back.

Ive been wanting to share this with someone here goes.I buy arttic shimp frozen,I let them thaw and take the head off and peal some of the shell off the tail. Then I put the shrimp into small Ball Jars fill about 1/3 full of sent then add shrimp place a candle in the middle light it and screw the lid on this seals it up. Ive tried diffrent sents and so far Ameram, and Pautzkes Ball of Fire have worked great the Steelies on the Santiam rip them up.I also turn the bottles every other day this keeps the color even. Hope it works for you like it has for me.

I also use Artic Shrimp, some I peel, some I do not. Mostly I use Pro-Cure's "Steelie Pink" in the shaker bottle - I just put the frozen shrimp in a zip sandwich bag, sprinkle the cure, shake it a bit, and by the time I get where I'm going, they are ready to use.

If they do not get too warm, left overs can be reused. I've been told they are cooked. Artic Shrimp are pretty durable to begin with, and the cure makes them a little more so.

If I recall correctly, the purplish colored ones you see might be Pro-Cures "Redd Hott Double Stuff"
