They look like Dave had them built, they aren't hay hooks. Sure work well though.

They are not hay hooks. Look like they are formed (bent) out of stainless steel rod and slip a piece of hose over the handle.

If they can't be found, and a bunch are wanted, I could whip some up.

DJ mentioned that Ampro on 212 in Clackamas might have them for sale.

I think hay hooks would work just as good. And probably easier to find.

Hay hooks are probably made out of carbon steel and will rust.

I bought one from a vender at the Sportsman Show. They were made from Stainless Steel to hold fish for carrying or pics. Lots of guides were buying them.

Forgot who was selling them though.

They are nice at the end of the day when you go to get the fish out of the box or cooler, and are handing it to someone else. Saves alot of sliming and dropped fish. Just wish I could remember where mine is...

They also work really well for unhooking fish while fishing barbless.

When I hike in to a fish spot, on those fine
cold, freezing the eyes on the pole days, I use
zip ties run thru the gill out the mouth, zip it into a loop and helps keep my fingers from freezing holding on to that fine fish while walking out to the truck. Don't weight nothing and makes me look like a wimp.

This year when hiking around and fishing, I started carry around one of those bags for thos cheap folding camp chairs. The bag is the perfect size for a a decent size nook, or a couple steelhead. They roll up nice and store in the back of my fly jacket, and rinse out and dry when done. They usually have one long strap, that just swings over your shoulder and keeps your hands free fro river crossing and hiking!

I would be afraid of hiking around with a sharp hook like shown in the picture. ooooops - nice body piercing!

Uhm, Think I'll make sum outta Titanium....
1/4 inch should do it, & Me thinks it should not have too much of a point anyway. Plus it could be curved in towards the main shaft like the big ole tuna hooks.
made a few meat flippin' hooks outta the titanium ( i typed in t1t here and 3 *** popped up ) *** . and the heat gave them a trippy blue splash o color, very fashionable, I'll put out a quote if anyone's interested. opps, can't do that.. sorry.

titanium = lightweight.... for yous hikers

the hose makes it easier on the hands ( both pressure and cold ) ?? but no bueno re fashion........

Try this idea. Cut the legs off your old worn out neoprenes and use them to put fish in. Saves stinking up the trunk of your car. When finished turn inside out, wash and dry and ready for the next time.

That looks identical to the hand gaffs used by commercial longline fishermen. Go to the nearest commercial fishing store and I'll bet you can find them

Fisherman's has the hook with the horizontal nylon handle. Looks like a J. Think they are about $9.50 and are located in Oregon City store by the gaff hooks and nets. These are made by Dexter Russell (cutlery maker) and have a bright orange handle.
