Default Okuma Spinning Reels

Anyone have any advice on which reel to purchase for a steelhead rod...8-12lb. There is so many to chose from as well as so many price ranges. What is your guys and gals experience with these. Would like to have a smooth casting, anti-reverse or what ever they call it, reel.

Thanks for your responses.

Epixor 30.....I love mine on my 8-12lb lami.

I have a Metaloid 20 on my loomis trout rod...also top notch.

My only complaint is that the okuma reels seem to ding up pretty easy. Loose that show room quality look real quick.....but I guess that doesn't matter to much.

Okuma Epixor 30. If you want to spend more $ go for the Shimano Stradic. Both have drags that will handle steelies and the occasional chinook.

I would have to agree. The Epixor EF30 is the way to go! Drag works perfect, every time.

I fix reels every day and would recommend sticking with Shimano. The reason I say this is because Okuma reels are difficult to get parts for if you need them. For the same price you can get a Shimano Sedona 2000 FA or 4000FA and you will be able to get parts for a least the next 15 years. I order parts from Okuma and half the time end up getting the wrong part. Their company seems to be ironing out some of their distribution problems. Okuma reels are smooth but they need to improve their parts side of their business before I will be confident in them. Same story with Shakespeare. My 2 cents.

I'm with reel guru on this. I like the Shimano's enduring style, durability, engineering and availability of parts. When Okuma first came onto the fishing scene, they were strictly a cheapo reel company. However, they have really grown and matured beyond my expectation. And having said that, they're not yet in the same league as Shimano. Perhaps I'll change my mind again in a few years, but I doubt it.
