Late run of Silvers
I hear rumors of a late run of Silvers that was in the Humptulips just before and during the snow.
Waiting now for it to come in.
Anyone hear of another river that has gotten a late run of Silvers?

Re: Late run of Silvers
Hey Corkyking....Sorry, no info on the run, but I used to catch bright silvers until almost this late/early in the year. I just had to smile when I thought, how many ifishers could find the "Hump" on a map. My parents used to have a cabin in Moclips. I fished the Humptulips, Queets, Hoe, and my favorite "sleeper" the Moclips for years....thanks for the trip down memory lane....
P.S. People who dig razors in Oregon would FAINT if they saw the clamming up there!!!

Re: Late run of Silvers
It's getting late for both late strain hatchery coho (in Washington) and wild coho both in Oregon and Washington.
There will probably be a nice one around here and there but I can't imagine any late run of them where someone can actually target and catch a quality coho this time of year.
But I could be wrong too.

Re: Late run of Silvers
Most of the Oregon coast has silvers that spawn into march.

Re: Late run of Silvers
Have caught chrome bright native silvers in January on one North Coast stream in particular.
I also know of a place real close to the Portland area that has a very nice supply of very large and bright native silvers right now.

Re: Late run of Silvers
Yea, those fish are there,Hump and Satslop. But ethical anglers don't target them. The few that survive aboriginal nets and floods should be allowed to procreate as intended. Now the hatchery brats are another story.

Re: Late run of Silvers
Wreckless:
An old photo but dig before last they were this size.
Only had the chance to dig once on Oregon beaches and they seemed small but I'm sure that there are beaches where the diggin' is good.
The reason the photo is old is that fish and game is making the people, who pay their wages, dig in the dark. Might make it easier to sneak up on those low-life, law-breaking slimeballs(facetious)that are out to wreck the beach. It may be good for writing tickets but the clams are easier to cull and waste. I saw thousnads turned to seagull food on the first dig. I'm sure with that kind of mortality that it is easier to justify closure. But I'm sure that there is a good PC explanation.

Re: Late run of Silvers
Yeah, I kinda drifted.
Heard tonight that a bunch of the latest run is accessible (and legal) in Stevens Ck. but I don't like to fish where I can only cast 20'.

Re: Late run of Silvers
Yea Ty but those are the later returning wild coho and the only two places you are allowed to C&R or harvest them is Silcoos and Talkenitch and I believe they closed Dec. 31.
And you would not even want to hook an old soreback that is going to spawn in Feb. or possibly March.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">I have pic's of wild coho on the coast in January and have posted the pic on Salty Dogs in the past but from all the January wild coho I have seen on spawning surveys I wouldn't too excited in catching them.
As far as catching them unless things have changed I believe it is unlawfull to fish for wild coho in Oregon with the exception of Silcoos and Talkenitch that just opened this year for wild coho retention.
I'm not sure but it seemed that fishing was closed for them and not open to C&R like it is for steelhead.

Re: Late run of Silvers
Thanks fer teh tip Born to be wild, but beyond what u have seen in surveys and heard there are quality late run coho, and no u can't target them anymore, and yes a grey area it is. If u are fishing fer steelies u may catch them, maybe u have just never caught any nice ones. Also I expect that the one's u woudl see on surveys would be pretty colored up, hence they are spawning and in there natal tributaries.
