drifting Kilch, Wilson, NFN ???'s
I own two 8' 6" pontoon boats. I've done the Tucca from Farmers to Cloverdale am few times. The higest flow was @ 4' 8".
I want to try some other coastal streams. The Tucca is cake as far as rough water, just gotta watch 4 the overhanging trees.
I need info on were to try and were not to. I don't want to get into trouble I can avoid by asking.
What rivers in the area? What drifts to run?
Spots to be heads up on.
Thanks for any info!
I'm going to have to "put in some time" driving thease rivers to learn the take outs ect..
But I don't want to have a "book' on drifing just one river.
One final thought,
I really admire the "time" guys have put in to make up there "book' on a bunch of diffrent places. Where you can & can't drift with X amount of rain. What river gets its X run first & when to hit the next river for the peak of that run. Ect.......
Guys have years and years of LEARNING in.
Good 4 them!!
I get so turned off when people cope a tude & want all the details.
All you can ask for is to get help getting started in the right direction.
You gotta learn the fine points on your own. Thats how you become a better fishermen.
I've got places i fish were I got it all coverd. I'm not gonna spoon feed someone there, but I'll make sure they got enough to get about learning on there own.
O.K. I'm off my soap box now.
Any advice to help me to get out and "put in some time" will be apreciated.
Thanks

You can drift the Wilson in a pontoon at any level. Once it gets to 11' you dont need to worry about the take out. Run that boat right into the parking lot.
From guide shop to Sollie is an easy.

Re: drifting Kilch, Wilson, NFN ???'s
Smokey,
Thanks,
From what i gather that is a productive stretch or river. I'll have to get out a map and try to figure out how long a drift it is. I'm guessing it gets alot of traffic. Maybe some diver and egg/ shrimp water. I'll have to go look the water and boats over to figure out the drill.
Nothing hairy?? I don't have alot of seat time on the oars. But I've bben told if ya keep it pointed down river those pontoons will handle more than I'd care to find out.

Smoky
well I expected that I might get my leg pulled.
But i never thought someone would try to reneg of solid info.
If ya didn't want everyone in the world in your hole @ 11' then ya shouldn't have let the cat out of the bag!
I'll be the first one on the river & see ya there.
BTW- read ya hooked up yesterday on a diffrent thread. Way to go!

Re: drifting Kilch, Wilson, NFN ???'s
I have a 9' fishcat I bought this summer, have been on the Nestucca from Farmers down to Cloverdale and first bridge(Beaver) down to Farmers. I like the holes better on the Higher run. I would like to try the Wilson and Trask this winter when the waters right and Maybe the Nehalem. Some information on where to run the rivers can be found on some of the Kayaking web sites. Hope this helps a little.

Re: drifting Kilch, Wilson, NFN ???'s
There's some very hairy water on the NFN if you put in at the hatchery, be very careful. Let's see, one, two, three big drops in about a mile stretch and you'd better know your line, the fourth is not a big drop but it can be a hanger-upper in any boat.
Nice thing about the toons is you can pick em' up and walk around, first falls take out on the left, next three drops you can go out on the right. The other thing is to dress real warm because you WILL get wet and if there is water in that river it is usually Winter.
I like to put my little Southfork in at the old Demolay camp on the Wilson when the water is too low for driftboats and pull plugs, a real hoot and eerily productive, just don't go trying to do that in a spot where you can't get the boat over to fight the fish!!!
Have fun, wear a vest and don't be stupid, we wanna hear your story!!!

The NF Nehalem is putting out steelies right now.
Right on about the danger of the Jack, King and The Queen. Be careful at any level!
You could drift the Kilchis in a four wheel drive truck right now.... (I am kidding, don't try it, but just thought it was funny. )
