sled question
There is a 19ft alumaweld super v pro for sale at Brown's Landing. 14,999. Is this a good deal. It has a yamaha 115 4stroke jet 2002. 1995. I was also told that a guide in Washington owned the boat before trading it in. I'm taking it out for a ride on friday so all opinions would be helpfull.

Re: sled question
Take some bodies with you, make sure it is adequately powered. Seems like it might be fair for power. Four people in the boat should give you a good test.
Just my 2 cents.

Re: sled question
I just bought a 1997 21ft alumaweld supervee pro, perfect condition, 1999 merc 4 stroke 10 hp kicker, 1989 200 hp merc jet, tandem axle trailer with brakes for 17,000
I looked for a long time and thought I got a good deal. you might be able to use this as a comparison. I would be careful buying a guide boat.
good luck

Re: sled question
I'd want a pretty steep discount on a guide's boat, and I'd want the power checked out by a mechanic. Guide's boats get a lot of use, sometimes hard use, and some guides just figure they're going to get a new boat every year or so, and don't maintain the boat and trailer very well.
Guide boats also often have a layout that is great for a guide, but may not be the best for family and friends.
It's not clear how old that motor is, is it 2002 or 1995? If it's 1995, I'd be pretty cautious. 2002 could be in pretty good shape.
115 hp with a pump is pretty light for that size of boat. My buddy has a 19 ft predator with a 150, and that's only fair for power. I have a 175 hp jet on a 19 ft v-hull, and with 4 people and gear in the boat, it works a bit to get up on plane. So 115 hp will be marginal. If you just fish you and 1 other guy most of the time, it'd probably be fine.
I'd keep shopping. What you want is the boat that someone bought and couldn't use, that spent the last 3 years in the garage, and that he can't get started when you take it out cuz the battery is dead. That's going to have low hours and be available for a good price.
I bought my first sled that way. Guy hadn't used it much, and didn't know how to use the choke, so it was hard starting. I got a great deal on it. Found the choke switch, and the boat ran like a dream after that.
Good luck.

Re: sled question
I'd have to agree that the power sounds barely adequate...

Re: sled question
For that amount of money, I would hold out for a 200hp motor.I understand that 4 strokes are not cheap, but jets are about acceleration and 2 strokes rule in that category. In this economy, you shouldn't have to look too hard. That and a guide boat sees more action in a year than most of us weekend warriors see in 7 or 8 years.
Good luck.

Re: sled question
Play with it on the water,, I have a 115 jet on a flatbottom sled and it punches it out of the water without a prob. I know the V takes a bit more.
Also look into the extras the boats has,, IE stainless impeller, canvas, tanks, kicker, anchor (Columbia River kind), shotgun mount (sping chinook oregon city). The extras add up and come out of you pocket.
If the boat is a 1995 and the motor a 2002 you should be fine. Ensure you have em toss in lots of extras to outfit the boat the way you want and Browns Landing will do that.....
Good luck and remember,, the only person you have to make happy is YOU

Re: sled question
ATTENTION!! I believe this boat has been at Brown's Landing since March or April!! I'm posititive I saw it on their website back then. This leads me to believe it's either very overpriced, or very underpowered.
Call your local Alumaweld dealer, and ask them what motor they reccomend....I bet they'll say 150 or 200hp.

Re: sled question
I Have a 20' 1991 Alumaweld Guide Model. Bot it from a guide. It was in good shape and has given me no problems. It is powered by a 200 merc Pump. I do not think you will be happy with a 115 on this size boat. If you should find a good guide boat, remember that it has been depreciated over the years. I bot mine in 96' for $13000 with double axle trailer. Good Luck!

Re: sled question
If you buy that boat which has a 66" bottom you will want a 150 or 200. Alumaweld doesn't build a 19 pro for a reason. For the kind of money you are spending get something with a 72 bottom and V6 power. Stevens has a 20 with 150 and kicker for 19,000 and it's a 2000 with 99 motors. my 2 cents......

Re: sled question
Thank you for everyone's input. I just got back from Brown's Landing. Took the boat out for a ride and was impressed with how smooth running that 4stroke 115 fuelinjected jet ran. The motor is a 2002 and the provee is a 1995. I tried to negotiate with a price just to see what they would do. Brown's wouldn't budge on the 14,999 price. With the fuel tank in the back of the boat and a 4stroke 115 sitting on the back, it does make it pretty heavy in the back. I think I will keep looking.

Re: sled question
I'm pretty sure I know that boat. Its light blue bottom/Darker blue top stripe with a Gamakatsu sticker on the bow? It's a nice boat. I've seen and chatted with the previous owner quite often. He was not a guide. He had a 200 horse on it. 2 cycle oil pump went out and it burnt up. He traded it in for a larger windshield boat.
It is a very nice boat, I wouldn't worry about that. He caught a lot of fish out of it.
I'm sure he would tell you that it would be under powered. They just put that motor on it. Negotiate an up grade, maybe.

Re: sled question
It could be also that the motor was added to that boat after the one that was on there was shot, tired or worn out or not taken care of for resale as a package. It could be a motor that was a take off from another package perhaps. Will Brow's give you the name of Mr. Guide so you can speak w/him? I wouldn't buy it w/o talking to him re: hrs. use. maintenance schedules etc. I can't imagine a guide would have such an underpwered boat to do what a guide boat should do day in and day out. Also he probly had to run it in the upper RPM range for it to perform, 'eh? Wear and tear is what that is. Remeber that old song."you better shop around". Good Luck. Chillyone........

Re: sled question
I have a 19ft Super Vee with a 150hp. Plenty of power with 3 or 4 people. I would think a 115 on a 19 ft. boat would be way under powered. Keep shopping. The price is in the ballpark.

Re: sled question
Fountun...... your right on the money. It's the same boat your talking about. The salesman at Brown's did tell me that the motor before the yamaha did burn up. Thanks for the info. I'm headed to the coast to do some relaxing jetty fishing. I'll give the salmon a break today.
