Hello all ifishers…
Since my first post was actually to secure an open seat on Hogmasters boat, I must first offer an apology, and then……. this introduction for your entertainment.
I grew up in OR, spent several years in CA, and have been back in OR for 8 months. This time for good, given I can find a job soon! Anywhoo… my first fishing experience was actually in Minnesota. My Great-Grandfather owned some timberland in northern MN outside Bemidji (Paul Bunyan and Babe, the Blue Ox.), and a lake called Myrtle Lake. As a kid, we had a family reunion there during the summer, and I was first introduced to fishing for NorthernPike and Walleyes. Trolling with spoons/kwikfish, during the AM and PM, and Bamboo fishing on a floating dock for crappies and sunfish.
After a couple days, we decided to do some undercover work… by using a snorkel and mask. We would float around the lake, diving off the shoreline and points to find out where the fish were holding. Then go back the next day, and focus our efforts in those sections. Our stringer was full almost every day! It was a fabulous setting, except for trying to avoid those huge mosquitoes during the evening. I left there with about a hundred mosquito bites, and most notably - a hobby for life.
I typically fly-fish for trout/steelhead, but recently had the absolute pleasure of landing my first Coho with fellow ifisher: Hogmaster. His willingness to help the fellow fisherman learn new techniques was invaluable, and greatly appreciated! He is a great resource, and better yet…. A Beaver! Go OSU!
