How far from Kelley Point to Bonneville?

How far is it from the mouth of the Willamette to Bonneville by river? Just wondering and figured someone here would have the answer!

Bout 70 miles (statute) on the water. 50 miles by land from Downtown to Coverts landing if I remember correctly. If your thinking of swimming it I would do it from the dam down to PDX. Those 8 knots currents could be tough!

According to my Nobeltec software, it is 33 miles from the mouth of the Willamette to the Fishery and 46 miles from the mouth of the Multnomah channel at St Helens.

Maybe you can swim it after all!

Sorry, Mel Miss Understood the question ... he thought you asked how far it was from his slip to Bonneville :grin: He's just looking for excuses to not fish near us. But, truth be told, I've heard that he lets his bait rot in a bucket for about a week before he goes out for sturgeon. I don't think we want to smell that skunk anyway!

Lets see, 50 miles at 15 mph = ~3.5 hours each way, 7 hours at (what does that big thing get?) 16 gallons per hour = 112 gallons at $1.75 (on river prices) = $196.00 for just gas!

Why doesn't someone take pity on the poor guy and just offer him a seat?

We all know that there are not and never have been any sturgeon near St Helens, so Bonny is the place to go. When I get back from Vegas, I'm going to start checking my secret spots, and it's nowhere near St Helens.

Steve- I don't want a seat at that dang dam. I spent enough years up there that I'm still thawing out. Of course it isn't really cold up there unless your truck slides down the ramp with tires locked on the ice until you hit the water. :shocked: Changing your shorts on the ramp after that gets pretty chilly too! :blush: Then of course you find the stearing cable on the motor is frozen, litterally frozen from the moisture (now ice) in the sleeve. (true story- I got witnesses if they've thawn out yet) :shocked:
Oh ya and Pete - I've arranged for a special release at Bonneville at 9 am. Watch for the wall of water, you'll probably hear it before you see it. Really gets those fish stirred up and on the bite. :grin:
Pitch Pocket is right, there are no Sturgeon down the river. However, since I did not win the lottery this week (thus can't afford the $196 for fuel- dang- that's pretty accurate Steve), I'm going to have to suffer through another fishless day of watching the games, turning the heat down (man is it hot in this boat?), getting another cold one, tending the microwave, changing the CD's, taking naps etc. :depressed: Sure hope those pogies don't wake me up!

Steve - How about the 7th for the Challenge? Sounds like a few other boats are going to stick down low too. Not sure what's going on T-day weekend. I probably won't be out if I'm going the weekend after. :depressed:

OK OK - It's only 50 miles to Bonne from PDX. [img]graemlins/stupid.gif[/img] It is about 70 from my slip in the Channel though. Gee wiz, I'm going to have to buy a handheld and keep it on my belt with the cell, the pager, etc.

Steve- I thought you were just going to practice on T-day weekend. Good thing I ask! Actually- thats a great idea. Why don't you go scout around and tie a few up for us. We gotta beat those upriver spawner teams on the 7th. :grin:
