Default Hammond Boat Launch?

Does anyone know if they have re-opened the Hammond boat launch? I NEED to go crabbing and want to avoid Warrenton, if possible.

Per the folks at Free Willy's Bait Shop, 5 to 6 weeks, they have it all tore up at this point. They are making it deeper and longer for the coming year ... make things better for boaters, though a bit tough on them now.
I wasn't logged on this summer so I don't know if it was discussed, the owner (Dave) didn't make it home after going out ocean fishing this summer, his widow is making a go of it but I'm sure any support from us would be appreciated. They have always done good by us (although we used to kid Dave about running two pots of coffee per filter to save $).

OK! Thanks for the info on the Boat Launch.

Now my next question. What are they doing at the launch. Re-paving or ?.

Good luck Patti, I hope you have a great 2003. You deserve it. My best to your family.

Rusty - The ramp was apparently all hogged out at the bottom (big drop off at the end and the lower part of the ramp was going away/full of holes etc). I guess it was a real problem at low tides (3rd hand info for me).
So.... they are building a coffer dam around the end so they can get down and place a bunch of big rock to fill in the drop off (hopefully permanant) and extend the ramp farther under water.

By wanting to avoid Warrenton, I presume you mean the Skipanon launch? I've always considered this a fine lauch. If you have a small boat it might be too much of a run but it's free. Could go across the river to Fort Canby?

I launched at Warrenton 2 weeks ago and the sign said $2. But there wasn't any envelopes in the holder. So I didn't pay, and nobody bothered to write me a ticket.

One time at the 5th street ramp in Tillamook I paid my fee but neglected to write the date on the receipt before I stuck it on the dash. I got a $10 ticket. The fine schedule on the ticket said the fine for no receipt at all was also $10.
It would have been cheaper to simply skip paying the ramp fee altogether.

I hear Hammond will be closed for another 5-6 weeks.

How far is it in miles to a decent crabbing area (Buoy 22?) from the Skippanon launch? I did launch out of there for sturgeon fishing this summer and it is $2! Nice launch though.

BF - It's 2-3 miles from the mouth of the Skippinon to Hammond I'm guessing, takes maybe 15 minutes if I'm putting along at 8-9 knots. It is another 10-15 minutes or so to get out of the Skippinon from the launch becuase it's almost al lno wake (I guess you know that). If your a 20-30 knot boat you won't add more than 5 minutes running from the mouth to Hammond.
It's another mile or so from Hammond to 22 and maybe a mile between 22 and 20. Just estimating here, no charts on the desk :depressed:

Running out the Skipanon takes just enough time to bait the traps! $2 is just about nothing. Isn't it $5 at Hammond?
