I had a Alumadrifter that I mounted a Minkota electric trolling motor next to a 15 hp Honda on the back. Since drift boats have such little drag in the water, the honda trolled to fast for it. I found the Minkota was deadly for trolling for springers in the Channel. I mounted dual batteries up front and ran the electric cable underneath the gunwale. It would troll all day.
I bought a cheap motorcycle battery charger that had a quick connect wire connection. The wire stayed on the battery, so all I had to do at night was plug in the wire to the charger and let it charge all night. Ready to fish again the next day.

I remember a thread a about a year ago on this topic. Definitely doable, we run one on a larger fishing boat and the auto pilot is great. Not sure though about how it would work on a river though. Doesn't sound like Mad Wiz likes the idea though.

I guess I should clarify that this is the Auto pilot model. Would you all not reccomend this on the bow?

i have one on my bow on a removable mount. you can take the motor off when not in use and a small mounting plate is all that is there. the bow mount works great for smallies and when stalking silvers in low water. go for it. they well the mounts in bassproshops.com

Wiz, why not on a DB, seems to me with an Auto pilot you would assist going/holding in a straight line and making up for the lack of keel?

What are the draw backs? Inquiring minds want to know.

thx, gus
