Re: Bait wrapped Kwiks for Steelies?
Remdrake - I'd like to hear what others have to say, but most Kwiki's that are used for steelhead are to small to bait wrap effectively... The smallest I've wrapped are k13's... and i usually fish for steeli's w/ K10's or smaller.... you might try experimenting though... good luck

kwik fish for steelhead are to small to bait wrap.scent yes, bait wrap??? it better be a very very small bait and i think your wasting your time.so i say i would not even try it.to much time spent to try and tune the plug.if it aint tuned right you just as well be sitting on your couch.

Re: Bait wrapped Kwiks for Steelies?
Madwiz nailed it. Scents are fine. But steelies are agressive (territorial) enough that they dont need bait. Think about it, spoons, spinners, plugs, rubber worms, sometimes even flies, and other techniques all elicit the same rod breaking strike we all love. These fish will eat bait in many forms. But they kill and remove intruders.I have had them try to eat K-12s (just a couple weeks ago)with no wrap. Agressive? You betchya. On the fish that refuse a plug, then bait is fine. A great way to catch fish. But not as necessary as some think.

if you feel bait is needed, use a small shrimp tail on the belly hook. you can do this for warts or other plugs as well. but dont be afraid to try, that is how we learn on new techniques.

I've read somewhere about wrapping U20's with a sandshrimp tail, I don't remember the source. As tough to tune as those little guys can be I think I'll just stick with smelly jelly.

Re: Bait wrapped Kwiks for Steelies?
The shrimp tail thing works. But the problem with these plugs is to find some that tune. About 1 in 6 will not swim ever. To add a bait wrap to them is asking for problems. The neat part of the plugs is they will swim in fast water if you tune them perfectly. Hot Shot fast water. Hmmm lessee proflie, color, flash, vibration, and scent( easier in a bottle form...Maries shrimp is great stuff) and dwell time on the fish, all in one package. Now put 2 or 3 out there side by side. "Wall of death".These fish hit these plugs because they invade their space. The bait may or may not help.If it affects the plugs' ability to swim, it hurts more than it helps. If you want to fish bait in a backtrolling manner there is a technique called "Diver and Bait".It works well also.
