Default Rock hard bait cure

All of my bait cure got moisture in it and I forgot.... Was there some way we figured out that would make it powder again? Or at least useable?

I think we discussed this, but I can't find it. Is it salvagable, or time to dump and buy new?

Yeah... I forgot what he said!

Part of it is his, part of it is egg cure I had from another source.

I let all of it get moisture in it. :depressed:

I feel so sad. So much egg cure! $eesh!

I find that a cheese grater works well as long as the cure isn't to wet. I know Amermans grates well once it has turned hard.

I kept my Ammerman cure in a dry place and it turned hard also. I e-mailed Scott and he said to try and break it up it should work fine. If I couldn't he would replace it. I like the cheese grater idea. I'll try that.

I've reconstituted borax cured "rocks" with Anise oil. Easier to just go get another fish though.....

Jennie,
Break it into chunks and throw it into the food processor. Should be powder again in no time.

Not sure if I'd use my kitchen stuff on a bait cure. The grater is worth a try though. Red bait cured coffee???? I'll pass. the cure might permanently stain or flavor a grinder or processor.

I used the coffee grinder on Amermans cure . I figured I could just clean it out when I was done and my wife would never know. Plus what did I care, I don't drink coffee  Well.... the red stain gave it all away. I could not clean all the evidence away. It is now "my" coffee grinder

Stay away from the microwave! I got in trouble for using that too. I was using it to dry my fishing stuff (wool gloves, favorite sweatshirt, wool socks, etc). That went over worse than using the dishwasher to clean a bunch of kwikfish I got at a garage sale.

I just checked my Amermans cure from last year and its rock hard too! I like some of the suggestions, but I must confess that I was most impressed with the blender/coffee grinder idea!! Wow, you people are dedicated!! I have irritated Mrs Baitslinger way too many times in the past with fish related processing in her kitchen!! It's gotten to the point that I've considered hiring my neighbors to all my processing/bait curing (in exchange for fish of course)!! Lets hear some more of you ifishers biggest disasters in your wifes kitchen.

Just so everyone knows. We recommend that you keep your Amerman egg cure in the freezer. It will last a whole lot longer this way. Grant

Jen try this:

you might put dry bread in there and they will suck up the moisture from the cure.
