St Croix glass rods for plugs?
Thinking of ordering a couple St Croix glass rods for running plugs / diver and bait. I like the soft action glass has for plugs and/or divers, I know St. Croix makes good stuff, but I have never actually seen a St Croix S-glass rod. Any thoughts? They cost half what the lamiglass graphite/glass hybreds cost and are less than a similar Fenwick.

Re: St Croix glass rods for plugs?
Good plug rod depending on the action. St, Croix's that I have built have all had a thick butt section. Does it give the tip size. Probably not but worth asking. What weight and length are they? I can look them up for you.

I'll let you know what I think if you can wait that long.

Re: St Croix glass rods for plugs?
I was thinking about the GC70M - 7' overall length, 1 piece, medium power, moderate action, rated 10-17 lb. line, cork handle, made from SC linear fiberglass for $75 bucks each.

Re: St Croix glass rods for plugs?
Cabelas has e-glass and their "Whuppin stick" fiberglass rods for $20. I bought 2 of the 7' 8-20lb test Whuppin sticks and like them. I need to get one more and may try the 7' e-glass next.

Re: St Croix glass rods for plugs?
UG,
I'll let you know when I get it and we can figure out if meeting is possible. It sounds like I am getting one a little heavier (8'6", 12-25 lb) than you were thinking but I wanted one that would handle salmon more than steelhead. I'm thinking it will still be light enough in the tip for hotshots and other steelhead plugs, but we will see.

Re: St Croix glass rods for plugs?
I've got the Lamiglass Certified Pro fiberglass "mooching" rods (not the hybrids) they run about $125 and they are fantastic!

Re: St Croix glass rods for plugs?
Brad,
Go with what works well for a lot of NW pluggers. Grab a couple Fenwick Fenglas FS85C's They run about $105.00 apiece. They are 8'6" in length and have a line rating of 8 to 20lb test. I have a couple and I use them for both Steelhead and Salmon. Great for everything from #30 Hot Shots up to K-14 Kwikies.
