Vortex lures......
Ok....... so. I bought a couple. $10 a piece at BiMart. Is it just me? Are my fingers too big, or are the battery installation instructions insufficient?
I am wholly unimpressed with the instructions, as well as the quality of both the lure and the hooks...... :depressed:
I'll be using Amerman eggs this weekend, on Owners hooks......
And although Vortex is American Made..... they're made in Arizona...... Enough said.
Another lesson learned.......
If you like 'em, and catch fish with 'em, you must have small digits..... or special knowledge not available to me...... and they have no website.
Tim :depressed:

Re: Vortex lures......
Tim, A couple of years ago a guy brought one o' them fancy pants lighed Vortex lures to the hog line on the big C for fall nooks. Well, everybody kinda' looked at him funny when he pulled it out at legal fishin' time (still dark) and proceded to work it back with it's little flashing light jast a blinkin'. It was about 15 mins. later his rod burried, they floated out, came back with a 30lber. True story. The lure didn't hold up and started leaking though, it was the only one he had too. Just think, you have two, save 'em 'till fall and get a limit!

Re: Vortex lures......
timinthegorge,
You might want to go back through some of the archives of Fear No Fish's posts. I remember him describing what he does with his Vortex's to make them work better. He does pretty well with them upriver a ways. Up by you as a matter of fact....
Good luck. I got one as a gag gift for my birthday a couple of years ago. I think I will get it out and try it sometime.
Steve

Re: Vortex lures......
I have used them, and I like 'em. The batteries are a pain to install, and getting them out after you are done is even worse. You really need to goop epoxy around the bill, and anyplace there appears to be a seam. Change the hooks out for Gamakatsu's. Slather them up with smelly jelly and hang a hunk of shrimp on the front treble and fish away. FNF told me how to set the danged things up, and he's right.

Re: Vortex lures......
Guys,
You mean to tell me you had trouble with one vortex lure? Take that times a hundred. You only have a little longer to wait (less then a month) for the new vortexes to be on the shelves. Fully sealed and no messing with batteries. While you are waiting, you might want to take a look at lighted Kwikfish. They are my go to lure right now. I think I have a couple more trips in me this year to McNary. Tuesday was the latest adventure. It was my first skunk of the season. I will give it a try Sunday night. I started perching yesterday at a lake named after pop. It payed off with some huge perch at 38 feet. Go swedish pimple and eyeball!

Re: Vortex lures......
I have a couple of the Vortex lures. Never had any luck but I found an easy way to take out the batteries. You know those very small pocket screwdrivers with the little magnet on the top, well the magnet work very well in getting the batteries out.

Re: Vortex lures......
Ok FNF...... I'll wait for the sealed Vortexes and I do have a couple of lit Kfish in the tackle box. Wonder if the new V's will be water activated like the Kfish?
Unfortunately, the NWS forecast for tomorrow up here in my neck o' the woods is for winds "25-35, gusting to 45!" I think the Every Penny II will be stayin' in the boat barn tomorrow.....

Re: Vortex lures......
Timinthegorge,
Yes, they are water activated. They do catch fish. At least they did until I broke one of them off and the other finally leaked after getting the bill broke. One of them lasted 7 trips and was still brighter then the ones you add batteries to.
