Bait in the morning

Where can I get sand shrimp and smelt before 9:00 AM, in Portland-Salem-Troutdale etc? I am coming up from the mid valley and going up river. Any help would be appreciated...Fisherman's Marine doesn't open until 9:00!

If you are heading out I-84 you can get them at both the Markets in Wood Village. Or in Troutdale at The Plaid Pantry up in town or Down on the River at Jacks.

Be aware that there has been a derth of sand shrimp the last several days due to rough ocean conditions.

You may want to get another backup bait like pickled herring or eel in addition to any smelt you find.

PS - If I weren't leaving at o'darkthirty to go fish at an undisclosable location I would say you could drop in as you pass by - I have a bunch of smelt I won't get to use before next smelt season! Oh, well, it is comparitively cheap this year anyway...

Thanks for the information and warnings! I think I will stop at each suggested spot, in order. I hate to waste fishing time waiting for Fisherman's to open! I always take a "back up" bait when doin' sturgeon! Thanks again...and thanks for the almost offer Hog...it was nice meeting you when I got the anchor.
