Re: Poll chose your line, mono vs braid
guess I should have been more specific, leave a post with your favorit brand of line & pros and cons about your favorit brand of line. I have noticed more with braids than with mono, that there is a major differance from one line to the next in the way they handle. With mono's I notice 4 things that vary form line to line. #1 memory, #2 stretch, #3 strength, #4 abraision resistance.

Re: Poll chose your line, mono vs braid
I mostly drift and spinner fish...Maxima mono for 15 years, tried others but always went back quickly. Knot strength is good, abrasion resistance is unbeatable and seems to always have a bit more than rated test strength. Use it for fly leaders as well.
Exception: the new Perfexion line, which has worked fine for me in 20# test and above, but not good knot strength below that. I learned the hard way after hooking and breaking off 3 silvers within a couple of hours using 12# perfexion. I complained to them about it and they sent me a new maxi spool of ultragreen plus a bunch of other goodies so they're also a great company!

Re: Poll chose your line, mono vs braid
I Too agree with husker. As I had just made the switch on one rod to 50 lb tuff line and so far loving it, haven't seen what it can do with the rest of my other cracking, I mean fishing.

Re: Poll chose your line, mono vs braid
Power Pro is my fav! Been using 20# on one reel for about 2.5 yrs & havn't broken any thing off. Looks all frayed & beat up at the end but still works great. Now that I've said that I think I'll go cut off about 20 feet or so.
Still use 12 & 15# maxima on two reels - love that stuff too. But eventually it will be replaced.

Re: Poll chose your line, mono vs braid
I choose Trilene XT for mainline, and Maxima UG for leader. I like the XT for its strength and low stretch. Maxima leader for it's strength, low visibility, and abrasion resistance.
Bobber fishing I like the Fire line or Tuf line
Ifishsum
I have had the same problem with the Perfexion as well.

Re: Poll chose your line, mono vs braid
I use mono for my drift fishing, spinner fishing and bobber fishing for winter/summer steelhead.
I use tuff line for spring/fall chinook bobber fishing.

Re: Poll chose your line, mono vs braid
Power Pro for Salmon, 50# which stacks great on a casting reel...30# sometimes binds. 8# maxima with seaguar flouro leaders on my drifting stuff.
BTW, I had a power pro failure once....line snapped in mid run...Power pro sent me 2 new lines to cover loss of lures!

Re: Poll chose your line, mono vs braid
I wanna vote for both.
However with the new Power Pro 8-lb coming out (same diameter as 1-lb mono! ), I might only be using mono for leaders

Re: Poll chose your line, mono vs braid
Tuf Line XP for sturgeon and salmon, mono, stren, Yozuri hybrid, and izorline depending on what I'm fishing for, drifting and or throwing hardware. I haven't tried Tuf Line for drifting but may try it this year.

Tuff-line for bobber fishing. Maxima UG for tidewater trolling. Berkley XT for rivers (with Maxima UG leaders).

Put me down for Tuff Line. I have Power Pro on one rod which I also like but not as much as Tuff line.

Re: Poll chose your line, mono vs braid
I go braided on all my reels. Spin or cast. But I use mono leaders!
Braided is great for the feel and sensitivity it gives you, but I feel you need the mono for some forgiveness, ( stretch) and fish arent as leader shy of mono.

Mono for drift fishing. Braided for backbouncing and bobbers. Will use braided for Q-fish or diver in the fall water

Re: Poll chose your line, mono vs braid
When I'm on the water, I always carry two rods. One has braid (Spiderwire Fusion) and the other has mono (Trilene Big Game or Maxima UG). I use the braid for drifting eggs and float/jig combo. I use the mono for throwing hardware (spinners mostly). Both braid and mono are effective in different situations.
I voted for braid because I've done well this year on both eggs and float/jig combo but not as well on spinners.

Re: Poll chose your line, mono vs braid
ok i voted....i prefer braided due to its longevity, strength, feel, and non stretch .....but when drift fishing with snags i need to be able to break it occasionally and i prefer mono for that usage.......i still feel the question is worded incorrectly
